Stupid

Being tickled, Hunter recoiled sharply and rolled over to smirk at Ryan. Her comment just made his face go red again and he covered it up with his pillow. "Shut up," he mumbled. "My brain isn't working yet and you know it."

He felt the bed move as she laid down, and moved his hand over until he was covering her mouth. "And wipe that stupid grin off your face."

Shifting back onto his stomach, he wrapped an arm around Ryan and nuzzled his face in next to her shoulder, giving a deep sigh. Maybe... just maybe, he'd hoped she'd join him. "G'night," he murmured.

Zan nodded in satisfaction. "Then I'd say we have a winner. Come on." He stood and slipped on his leather jacket before going to the counter and paying the bill. At the door, he held it open for Destiny, then joined her outside. The evening air felt good and fresh.

Tucking his hands in his pockets as promised, he nodded down the street. "It's this way." He kept his long stride in check, knowing he had a bad habit of walking to fast for others, and took a more relaxing speed. "There's just something about the night air," he mused. "I've always been a night owl, but I definitely like the way the air feels after dark." Lame small talk, but at least it was talk.

It only took a couple minutes to get to the little coffee shop. It was very quiet, with only one other customer, and quiet music playing in the background. Zan picked a table for two, and after they'd ordered, he leaned back in his chair, cocking his head. It was lighter in here and he could see her features better. She really was s lovely young woman, in spite of the state she was in. "So... we've talked about the nasties... Let's try something else. What do you like to do for fun?"

Chance swallowed hard, contemplating his options, before he shook his head again. "I'd... I'd rather have an IV." He really didn't think he could stomach anything right now, not even a couple bites.

Finally calm enough to breathe easier, his head sank back into his pillow. His head hurt. His stomach hurt. His heart hurt. Why, did he always mess things up? It was the story of his life. Never getting it right.

He rolled onto his side to curl up as he subconsciously tried to comfort himself. And when Misty had to use a needle for the IV, he didn't blink or flinch, simply staring into nothingness.

It wasn't too much later that Justin slipped quietly into the infirmary. He studied Chance's still form for a few moments before going over to Misty's desk, and he kept his voice down. "Pete told me about what happened and... I just wondered how Chance was doing and what you thought about it."
