Not Here

Kirk fell silent, digesting Adison's words for what seemed to be a longer amount of time than necessary. He fiddled with a filing folder, studying the ragged edge that proved this file had been here for quite a while. Like everything here. They'd started how long ago? Years before they ever called themselves the Elite. There was history here. A legacy. A legacy that didn't have to end, were it not for those who simply wished to remain in control.

"I think I know how to save the Elite." His voice was quiet, almost hesitant. "It just... goes against everything I've ever fought for. But... if it was the right choice before... then it would still be the right choice now." He finally looked back up at Adison. "The same people who are trying to shut down the Elite are denying the existence of the Underground, along with allowing the Agency to gain a greater foothold. And I... think that's a worse crime than trying to save lives and souls like the Elite does, even when that means doing so behind the law's back."

Zan chuckled and finished his sandwich before wiping his hands on his jeans and replying again to Destiny.

Ok. I'll text ya when I'm done at work.
Would love to see you tonight.
Hopefully Jett will be fine, but
either way, would like to get together.

"Yo, Zan man! ready to finish that transmission?"

He looked up and grinned at Leo. "Of course! What's the hold up?"

"Me? I've been standing here watching you eat and text your mother."

"My mother, huh?"

Leo cocked his head. "Girlfriend?"

Zan just ignored him and shot Destiny one last text.

:) I gotta go. See ya later.

"Alright..." He tucked his phone back in his pocket. "Let's go. We're behind Miles and Ryan and I refuse to lose, even if it is just my second day."

...The rest of the day moved quickly, and before Zan knew it, he was headed home. Despite knowing Destiny liked the smell of car grime, he really did need a shower. But getting inside, he waited before cleaning up, texting her again first.

Hey. Jett's not here.
Think he felt better?

He knew good and well his friend should have been hung over way too much to be feeling better already. And he didn't have this pickup here so... maybe he'd just called someone for a ride and had gone home? It still seemed odd that Jett wouldn't just stay here.

Uh, yeah... you sorta did.

Jason gained a wry grin as he stood as well to throw his things back in his bag. They hadn't brought much, so it didn't take long to be ready to go, and they were upstairs with Jed and Sarah.

Standing around the kitchen island with them, Sarah smiled. "I'm so glad everything is going to be okay."

Jed nodded his agreement. "Just know... if you ever need a place again... we're not planning on moving any time soon."

"Thank you." Jason offered them both handshakes. "You ought to visit the ranch sometime. I bet Rosetta would be happy to see you again."

Sarah patted her husband's arm. "If I can convinced this guy to get out of town for a few days... that would be nice."

Jason sighed and looked to Katie. "Well? You ready?"

"Oh, oh." Sarah whirled around to the fridge. "Hang on one sec." It was actually a couple minutes, but when she was done, she had a sack full of leftover sandwiches, some bottled water, and some cookies she'd baked earlier. "Here. Now you won't have to stop for supper."
