As Katie left, Mick sighed and glanced to Jason. "You might wanna
find your mom before she hears from someone else that you're here."
Jason smirked. "Yeah... I was kind of surprised she didn't blow up my phone like Jeff did with Katie."
Mick
shook his head. "She found out you were on the run, but got pretty
quiet after that. My guess is she's been just as worried as Jeff, but
has been internalizing it."
"I know. She's always been
that way. She hates it when I'm out of contact with her, but she always
just tries to call once or twice then drops it. Which I appreciate but I
guess it makes me feel more guilty too." Jason took a couple more bites
of breakfast before he stood. "Okay... I better go before she gets to
the main house and talks to someone."
It
was a little early for breakfast to be done, but Jeff expected whoever
was at the door was probably Becky or Jade. He barely glanced up as the
door opened, then did a double-take. His eyes widened as he immediately
got up off the bed. "Katie? What in heaven's name..."
He
closed the gap instantly and wrapped his arms around her, hugging her
tightly. "Are you really here?" He kissed her cheek and hugged her again
as tears sprang into his eyes. "I was so worried... where have you
been?" He backed up to hold her at arm's length. "Are you okay? Are you
still hiding? How long can you stay?"
Jett
opened one eye halfway again to look at Destiny, and he finally moved,
reaching down between the cushions to find the television remote, and
tossed it to her. He then looked back to his plate and tried another
bite of toast. So far, so good.
Seeing Jett respond to
her, Zan smiled a little. At this point, she could probably get away
with far more than he could. Jett might slug him, but he seemed halfway
receptive to Destiny's promptings. "Just find something without mush.
Jett can't take it."
Jett rolled his eyes. "I can
handle mush better than you can." He took another sip of Sprite, and
finally sat up a little more, turning to face the television so he
wasn't pushed back so far in the corner. He dared a glance at Destiny.
"Pick whatever you want. There's some movies over there too. Ronnie
doesn't care if I watch his stuff." He didn't know how long they were
going to stay, but... maybe having company wasn't so bad after all.
"Mm...
they might let us do the training. I'd have to convince them we meet
their qualifications simply because we were formerly FBI. That might be
enough." Kirk scribbled another note, scratched it out, then wrote another one.
At Adison's suggestion to use Aaron, his eyes lit up. "Oh yeah! I remember Sam mentioning something about him having tendencies towards engineering. He likes building with legos all the time to keep himself occupied and he's built some pretty cool stuff. Not that it compares to an actual building, but it could be a start."
He took another bite of pizza and caught a piece of pepperoni before it dropped onto the floor. "Bet Sam would at least like to offer him the task. Maybe he should come down to the new place to see what we're dealing with. If we can involve him even just on the surface, that would even look good for the record too. Yes..." He kept thinking as he nodded. "Brilliant idea number two!" He gave her cheek another kiss. "Good thing you're here or I'd come off just my plain old idiot self."
