Amazing

Hearing Misty wanted to talk to him, Carson tensed. That was never good. She didn't seem upset though so... what was going on? His stomach started to churn as he followed her into the kitchen. He picked up the large pan he'd been working on started to dry it as he listened. Where on earth was she going with his and why should he care about someone Reese had been visiting in the hospital? He was only involved part time at the office, and even if this did have to do with a case, why wasn't Reese telling him himself?

As he realized just what Misty was telling him, it felt as if the entire world stopped. The pan slipped from his hand and clattered to the floor loudly, but he didn't even notice. His face wore nothing but shock. "What?" He couldn't have heard her right. But the look on her face said otherwise.

For a moment, all Carson could see was Alec being shot on camera. It had been clear as day that they had killed him. All of those emotions came back like a tidal wave, making his face go pale. The anguish. The sadness. The funeral. The grief. It was happening all over again. He'd thought he'd lost Misty once too, only to find out later she was alive. When would the madness end?

He set a hand on the counter to steady himself and he blinked, shaking his head a little to try and think straight. "He's... alive? But... but how? How did he survive? How did he even get out? It..." He searched his wife's face for answers, groping for some kind of sense in all this. Sheer joy wanted to surface, but he couldn't let it yet. Not until he was absolutely sure of what was going on.

Faith in himself... that was something Zan hadn't had for a very long time. Anybody would say he held himself with confidence. He was fairly bold, unafraid to stand up for himself or others, and he was just a bit of a daredevil. But deep down, underneath the walls he'd built over the last several years, he really did have very little faith in his abilities or where he was headed in life. Maybe Destiny had struck a chord he hadn't even realized was there.

He leaned his face into her hand for a moment, enjoying her soft touch. It was hard to believe their meeting at The Griller that night had been an accident. "Of course I'm coming," he finally replied. "I'd be too jealous otherwise - the others getting to spend time with you. That wouldn't be fair." Tossing her a smile, he started the car up and headed slowly out to the road, careful of other cars and people who were walking.

It didn't take too long to reach the Hangout. A handful of cars were in the parking lot but it didn't look too busy at this hour. Heading inside, Zan spotted Jett who already had a table saved, and wandered over with Destiny, pulling out a chair for her first, then sitting next to her.

Jett cocked his head as Zan didn't say anything. He felt bad and wished the outcome had been different at the race. "Hey."

Zan sighed. "Hey."

"Well... next time, huh?"

Zan rolled his eyes. "I'm just glad I didn't stick around to watch Thunder gloat."

"Eh." Jett shrugged. "That just means he'll fall harder when you cream him."

"If... I cream him."

"You will." Jett nodded, giving Destiny a quick glance. "'Cause I think a few of us would beat you over the head if you quit trying."

Zan finally grinned. "That's kind of a funny mental image, ya know."

"At least your imagination is still in tact."

"At least your jaw is still in tact for the moment."

Jett laughed and stood up. "I'm gonna go get me some chili fries. I'm starving."

"You're always starving." Zan watched him leave before sighing and letting his eyes rest on Destiny again. "Have I told you yet today you're amazing?"

"Yep." Hunter withheld his laugh as Ryan turned his back on him. Sliding his arms around her waist, he put his chin over her shoulder and kissed her neck, then her cheek. "But since you always come with me to the races, then... I get the best of both worlds."

Turning her around, he smiled and kissed her on the lips this time. "Admit it. You couldn't be mad at me if you tried." Slipping away he handed her her helmet and put his on too. "We better go before the others eat all the food. Which is quite possible with Jett."
