Reading Ashlee's text, Dylan's eyebrows rose and he grinned.
Wow. I assume your mom
said yes...
He
knew Ashlee was probably thrilled - it was pretty obvious how she felt
about Eric, and Dylan would be shocked if Stacy had turned him down.
What did shock him almost as much though was finding out his dad
had worked with Seven. For two hours? He'd actually taken that much time
out of his day for that? Dylan would never have thought he'd try to keep Seven there. He was relieved though. Maybe things would be alright with the horse after all.
My dad? Serious?
Glad it helped...
And thanks for your part too.
Really appreciate it.
He
sent the text and took another couple bites of his banana, rereading
her message. Was he really missed by anyone other than Seven and Ashlee?
His thumb hesitated, then finally he typed out another text. It had
been under a week since he'd been gone, but it still felt strange not
having seen anyone from the ranch in that long. He was so used to knowing virtually everything that was
going on there, that being this far removed felt off kilter. He was
surrounded by people here all day but... he was starting to miss seeing
certain people from the ranch.
I asked how Seven is...
But how bout you?
Travis grinned and eased down in a chair across from
Ashlee with his own plate of food for lunch. Seeing she was engrossed in
texting, he smirked and nudged her leg under the table. It wasn't like
her to be busy on her phone, and he wondered who it was.
Glancing up at Sam, Kirk forced a thin smile. "Hey." There wasn't
much space, but at least he and Adison had expanded the size of their
shared cubicle. He motioned Sam in and to the extra chair. "Have a
seat." He swiveled around in his own chair to face her.
"I'll cut right to the chase. We have Aaron in custody. Actually... he came back on his own. Waltzed in here and offered us all the intel we wanted. He
just had one condition - that we end your suspension along with Pete's."
Kirk cocked his head. "Apparently... you did a better job with him than
you thought. And... apparently you did a better job all around than I
thought." He handed Sam her badge and gun.
Pausing, he
took a deep breath. "On that note... Reese recommends you resume being
Aaron's handler. He and I are both okay with it, but I'm not going to
enforce it if you'd rather someone else do that. I just wasn't sure
you'd be comfortable after everything that has happened."
