Peace offering

Garret's eyes narrowed slightly before he almost laughed at Nate's suggestion. "Me? Help convince Reese? You're joking, right? There's no way he's gonna go for this idea, let alone coming from me, and you know it. I'd just make things worse."

He did want to help with the Brookshire case...but not badly enough to go back to the Elite. Not there. Not where he wasn't welcome and there were people like Justin who were determined to tear him down.

He shook his head. "You're the only one who listens to me. My idea of helping the Elite is just as far-fetched now as it was when I got here." He wasn't trying to start an argument. He just couldn't see past his own pain right now, and didn't want to deal with fighting to be heard. He was too tired to fight his own demons, let alone work so hard at gaining trust.

As Adison looked up at him, Kirk really wasn't sure what this all meant for the two of them, or where it would lead. And it definitely complicated things. But...he wasn't scared of it. Not with her by his side. It would be an adventure, and one they would tackle together.

Letting the moment dissolve for now, he followed Adison's gaze. "Ah. Yes. I am...looking for a prototype that...I'm not supposed to know exists. But I knew Jamison would be able to find the documentation of where it's at. Come on."

Meandering back through the rows of shelves, he finally found the box he was looking for. "Aha..." Kneeling down to open it, he pulled out what looked like a black long-sleeved jacket that zipped up the front. The material was quite dense though, and it was obvious that it was not your typical cotton or polyester. "Here we go." He returned the box, but kept the garment. "This...is going on unofficial loan to the Elite. The FBI postponed the project because of lack of funding, but some guys at the lab developed this new bullet-proof material that's super thin so it can be worn under clothing instead of over it...so basically the enemy doesn't know you're wearing it. And I know just the guy who could use it right now."

He stood up and aimed back out of the storage. "Not to mention...it might serve as just a little peace offering, too." Before going out into the basement hallway again, he stopped to look at Adison one more time. "I gotta go...but...you wanna pick up where we left off...tonight?"
