Silent

It was late. Not everyone had noticed Clint's absence during the day, but those that had, found it strange and just a bit worrisome. Now it was dark. Some had already gone to bed. Some had not, and a few lights were still on, but mostly the ranch was blanketed in the black of evening.

Clint parked his truck near the house and just sat for a few quiet minutes before finally getting out. He was exhausted, and yet didn't want to go to bed. Wandering slowly up onto the porch, he quietly entered the house. He knew the kids would be put down by now, and he knew Wendy would be waiting up for him... and probably worried since he hadn't called or texted her all day.

After taking off his boots and jacket, he came into the living room to see Wendy on the couch. He was almost afraid to approach, in case she'd be upset with him, and he really didn't want to get yelled at right now. Sinking down next to her, his eyes were downcast. Still silent, he leaned over and brought his feet up to curl on his side with his head in Wendy's lap.

Seeing Ryan's reaction, Eli couldn't help his relief mixed in with his pleasure. He'd been leery of this idea, but Justin had encouraged him, and he was glad now that he'd gone through with it. The expression on his sister's face was worth it. Returning her hug, he just smiled and chuckled. "You're welcome..."

Hunter hugged her too, but shook his head as he smiled. "Don't thank me. I didn't do anything but bring you here. It was all Eli and Axel." Drawing back, he put a hand to Ryan's face, letting his thumb brush a tear from her cheek. "You're still gonna have to ride my bike with me sometimes though... otherwise I might get lonely."

Eli snickered and rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Your car, it's um... it's all gassed up and ready to go." He paused. "Right now, or whenever you're ready. It's on your time, your terms. Just know that."

Garret truly was amazed at Thirteen, and he couldn't get over her words. Why was she like this? Why was a girl like her - a product of the Agency's cruelty - trusting him, when hardly anyone at the Elite would even give him the time of day? It didn't make any sense.

"Thank you..." He cocked his head. "I could use a few more friends..." His voice softened a little. "You have a name other than a number though... don't you?"
