Hal nodded at Nate's observation. "Yeah. Nobody around here suspects any of us, but they're just going through the motions so Reese can prove there was an investigation to rule us all out. Pete and Ron have been handling it, so just be aware."
Hearing about the vacation, he smiled. "Glad you had a good time." He paused as he took another swig of water. "By the way, I'm sure you've talked to Garret already since he's still at your place, but just so you know, there weren't any mishaps while you were gone. I'm pretty sure Reese has been watching him like a hawk, but he's done a good job sticking close to Sapphire and avoiding conflict."
After finishing up the conversation and left alone once again Hal's body had cooled down. He looked back at the punching bag, but opted to call it quits... for now. He'd gotten some of his frustrations out at least, and could come back to it later if he wanted.
Grabbing his bag, he headed back upstairs and took a quick shower before changing into his clothes for the day. Eventually he arrived in the security room, not surprised to see Sam had arrived. More than likely, she'd been there a while already. And as he saw her, his stomach did a little flip.
"Morning." He managed a thin smile as he eased down in his chair and logged into his computer. "Sorry I'm late. Anything exciting happening?"
Kirk leaned against a filing cabinet as he listened to Ron. Unfortunately, his confusion only grew. How on earth could two people fall ill at the same time like that, consistently? It wasn't making any sense at all. "What the heck?" He shook his head. "How weird is this? I mean... how does that even happen? I'd say they're really like, twins or something, but they're dating, so that would be..." He shook his head again. "Never mind. Just... there's something not right here, and I want to know what it is."
He glanced at Adison, then back to Ron. "Think I should ask Misty?"
Feeling Hope accept and return his affection, Scott just let himself fall into the moment, ignoring all his inner worries about the future. He knew it was time he realized Hope truly accepted him for who he was now - scars, issues, struggles and all. If she was willing to love him as-is, then he knew he needed to rid himself of the fear of simply being...himself.
He had no idea how much time passed, and he didn't care. Eventually though, he slowed and retreated just enough to see Hope's face. He set his head down in the sand, just studying her as his palm rested gently on her cheek. "I love you," he spoke quietly. "I don't want to risk losing you again... so just... keep being patient with me... okay?"
At the suggestion of having Jeff over for dinner, Cindy immediately nodded. "He's more than welcome to join us," she assured. "We eat about half our meals in the main dining room anyway, too, so it's not like we're hermits."
Jason smiled, glad for his mom's willingness to support them while they stayed here. He glanced at his watch, realizing they'd been sitting and talking for longer than he'd thought. Katie had helped ease off his tension, at least for now, and at least enough that he didn't feel quite as dizzy at the moment. "Well... wanna put our bags away, then go look for your dad? I need to stretch my legs a bit."
"I said I don't want your help!" Jim threw off Jeff's hand before he turned, tripped over the corner of a hay bale and slammed into the edge of an open stall door. It was hard to hide the fact that it had hurt - the whole side of his face stung, and he knew it was going to bruise, and possibly give him a black eye...again. At least he couldn't see it.
Jeff frowned with concern. "You alright?"
"Of course I'm not alright!" Jim growled. "But I don't need you trying to lead me around like a child!"
"I was just trying to help."
"Well you haven't succeeded yet, so just bug off."
Jeff's shoulder's dropped. He really had just been trying to help Jim navigate, but apparently he wasn't wanted. Turning around, he slowly headed out of the barn. His face showed irritation, and maybe even anger, but really, on the inside, he was feeling hurt. Luke and Jim both felt worthless around here, and sometimes... so did he. He just didn't have as big of an excuse.
