Compromise

Gunner was quiet for a few moments until he finally shook his head. He didn't want to talk to Hope. He knew too well what she'd say. He knew what they'd all say. He knew what would happen, and he didn't want to go there. "Your vampire is fine," he assured, giving her another squeeze. "I just...had a bad moment, that's all."

Should he stay? Should he go? He was tired of leaning on Bree and JT. He was tired of them having to hold him up all the time. He was supposed to support Bree, not the other way around. He was fine...he had to be. But he couldn't prove that by staying here.

"I should really go home and clean up," he reasoned. "But I can always come back for supper tonight if you want." That was a fair compromise, right?

Garret smirked a little and shook his head. "Not surprised." It was commendable that Reese wanted to protect Jason, but if there was no other way to end this, he could just be making things worse. "Maybe Jason should be the one to decide." He shrugged. "If it's the sniper's job to stay on the hunt, he will, and nothing will change that until he's caught. If I were Jason, I'd hope I'd have some sort of say in the matter."

Laura hated thinking about someone hunting Jason down. She knew it was a topic that needed to be discussed, and she was glad for Garret's input, but it made her stomach turn. Excusing herself, she went to get a jump on the laundry for the day. Going to Garret's room too, she picked up his clothes before a thought struck her. Maggie's sweater could be taken somewhere today...

She went back to the kitchen. "Nate, I'm gonna do some running around this afternoon. Need me to pick anything up while I'm out?"

Morning. Kirk couldn't have been in a better mood. Adison had gone home late last night after they'd both wound up falling asleep on the couch, but if he'd missed out on any sleep, he didn't feel it. Work might be a nightmare right now, but at least he had her, and that was already making the world just a little brighter.

Heading into work, he held four coffees this morning instead of just two. Depositing one on Adison's desk, he threw her a wink. He hadn't had time to text her this morning, and he very much wanted to stop right now and kiss her good morning, but he knew better than to do that here in the office, so he refrained. Once they were in the Elite...things might be different.

Next, he aimed for Tod's desk and set down one of the other coffees. "Sorry about yesterday," he apologized. "You have no idea how much your stupid comment changed things. So I at least owe you a coffee." He didn't give Tod time to respond, before he kept going. One coffee left for him, and one for... "Good morning, Sam." He offered her the last coffee before sitting on the edge of the desk and giving her a cheesy grin. "I need to talk to you. Can I convince you to..." His voice trailed off as there was a slight commotion by Barnes' office.

"Way to go, man." Jed gave Mark's shoulders a pat. "You sure pulled that one off."

"You bet." Mark tossed a file onto someone else's desk. "That lead was all it took, if I do say so myself."

"And it's not even noon yet! You're so buying drinks tonight."

"Aw now..." Mark laughed. "I deserve to have my drinks bought for me, don't you think? I just took down a mobster single-handedly!"

Jed snickered. "Well...mostly, maybe. But okay. First round's on me."

As they exited into the hallway, Kirk rolled his eyes and turned back to Sam. "Showoff. Just 'cause he closed a five-year-old case, he thinks he deserves a medal. Now...where was I? Oh yeah... meeting room. You, me, in ten minutes. Got time?"

Standing off to the side, Jamison sighed and picked up the file that Mark had tossed around. His evidence. His tip. His lead. Mark hadn't done any of the work himself at all. Jamison should be the one being congratulated, but who was he kidding? He was invisible around here.

Knowing he was needed back upstairs to finish some paperwork, he also aimed for the hall. Passing by Adison's desk though, he stopped and snapped his fingers. "Almost forgot. That missing evidence...two weeks ago, from that murder scene? Got a tip that leads to that CEO of Heights Incorporated. You might wanna check it out."
