Splash

Hunter hung around the edge of the pool for a few moments, glad Ryan had joined him. He would have hated it if she'd just hibernated all evening. He knew it had been a tiring day, and felt badly that all she was going through was so hard. This trip needed to make her smile and forget her worries for a while.

Wiping some water from his face, her last comment produced a mischievous grin. "Well what are you waiting for?" Without thinking, he reached up and grabbed her arm. Pulling her off and away from the edge, he brought her right into the pool with a splash.

Hal grinned and cocked his head. "Maybe I do have a chance yet." He laughed and set himself up for his turn again.

As they played and laughed, he did improve, but not by a whole lot. Several incredibly bad throws resulted in more laughter, and an hour and another glass of pop later, Hal sank down in his chair again, out of breath and warm.

He shook his head and drank the last little bit of his coke before sighing deeply. "I don't know about you, but I think I'm gonna have a sore shoulder in the morning." He smiled up at Sam. "Worth it though."

Carson's hear skipped a beat as Misty invited him to come along. Really? She... had really said that? It was exactly what he'd been waiting for, for so long. And yet... for the longest moment, he remained silent. His eyes roamed the dark yard as the sun had set, and watched a car drive by on the quiet street.

"I think.... it would probably be best for Mac if it were just you and her for now." Oh how painful those words were. He closed his eyes and ran a hand through his hair. He hoped this move wouldn't ruin any future chances. He just... couldn't risk his heart yet. Not to just be rejected again.

"For her sake," he finished logically. "I don't want to give her false hopes of anything." That much was true. He didn't want Mac to see them together and assume all was well and fine again. It would just make things harder on her. "I can... at least bring her and pick her up." So much for his determination. Maybe it was the best compromise though. "Which night works best for you?"
