Can't Fall

Hunter kept Buttons as still as possible as Ryan tried again to mount. He was impressed with the little mare's patience, along with Jeff's advice to use her. And he was also impressed by Ryan's determination. That was the Ryan he knew. That was the Ryan he faced in the races.

Seeing her finally succeed, he couldn't help his smile. He paid little attention to her words as he moved quickly. Buttons was short enough and he had enough practice that in one slick maneuver, he was straddling the mare behind the saddle. One hand cupped Ryan's over the reins, and his other arm slid around her waist to hold her. Buttons wasn't thrilled by the extra weight, but laying her ears back was the only sign as she remained obediently still.

Hunter wasted little time in coaxing her forward at a nice slow walk, forcing Ryan's hand to control the reins and steer. He slid his face over her shoulder and seeing her eyes still closed, he chuckled. "You can look now," he prompted. "Relax..." He gave her a gentle squeeze. "I got ya. You can't fall. See?"

Eric couldn't have been more pleased. It felt like he'd been waiting an eternity for Ashlee to get to this point, and he had to try extra hard not to look so thrilled. Instead, he nodded slowly.

"Alright."

Travis blinked. "Alright what?"

"Alright, you got your walk." Eric held up a finger with his free hand. "Be back in an hour though. You two start following the rules and we'll be able to trust you again, okay?" It was going to take a few restricted times before he'd let up all the way. "Prove you're serious about not pulling any stunts again, and you'll be back riding... soon." Truth be told, he missed Ashlee's riding lessons probably close to as much as she did herself.

Travis stood before Eric could change his mind. "Thank you. We'll be back in an hour. Promise." Glancing at Ashlee he waited for her to join him, hoping she would accept the offer as well.
