Partners

Hal glanced up from his sandwich at Sam and grinned a little before he shook his head. "Not really."

Kirk scrunched his nose up at Adison as he elbowed her back. "Yeah, yeah... One of these days I'll learn to listen to you." He reached over and wiped a little cheese off her chin before laughing.

Hal's eyes glanced over to them, then he smirked at Sam. "Club? Filing room? Same difference with those two."

Kirk hadn't heard him, but as he focused on eating again, he couldn't help his investigative tendencies. Hal still wasn't relaxed. Why? What was it about this setting that was putting him on edge? Was he just that antisocial? Kirk hadn't meant to put him in an awkward position by inviting them to be here. Hal could have said no, though, and hadn't.

Finishing up their meal - or at least enough to satisfy them for the time being, it was Kirk who made the first move to play pool. Naturally he teamed up with Adison, leaving Hal and Sam to be partners.

Hal played, and it was apparent that he knew what he was doing. He wasn't the greatest player, but he did know the game. In spite of his interaction though, he was still quieter than usual, often sweeping the room with his eyes and sometimes losing track of whose turn it was.

Watching Adison play, Kirk grinned. "So glad you're on my team. You definitely make me look like a better player than I am."

Hunter could feel his face flush and he shook his head at Ryan, even though his lips were grinning. "I... think you might have me confused with someone else."

He halted the horses and leaned down, unclipping the lead rope from Buttons' halter. Moving forward again, the mare followed, just as he'd predicted. "See? Piece of cake."

As Chad ran his fingers through her hair, Rosalyn closed her eyes and sighed. She thought for a long while before speaking again.

"What would you really say? If I said I wanted to go back?"

She sat up and turned to face him, still curled between his legs. "If that's what I chose...?"
