Kirk groaned at Sam's mistake, but had to laugh. "I guess if that's what it takes for me to win, I'll accept it."
Hal chuckled and set down his stick. "Ditto." He knew good and well that Sam had just thrown the game. And he'd be forever grateful. "I think it's probably time for me to get going, too."
Kirk nodded. "Alrighty. Had fun tonight too." He elbowed Adison. "I think we ought to stay and play one more game though, just for good measure."
Bidding farewell, Hal made his way to the exit along with Sam. Once again, he held the door open for her and followed her outside. Just wandering slowly into the quiet parking lot, he gave her a sidelong glance. "Thank you...for giving up the game. That was... very gracious if you."
He stopped and turned to her with a small smile. His head still hurt, but just being outside was already helping ease his tension. And he owed Sam big time. "You still wanna go for that ice cream?"
Hunter slid off Buttons first then waited for Ryan. As she started to fall though, he acted quickly, stepping forward to grab her. It happened all too fast though, and her momentum plus gravity was too much to hold. Falling backward himself, he instinctively wrapped his arms around Ryan and hit the ground back-first, taking the brunt of the force to break her fall.
Startled from the commotion, Buttons shied away. Then discovering Hunter had dropped the reins, she took advantage and took off at a fast trot through the pasture towards home.
Hunter, still in his back and holding Ryan, coughed and blinked. "You alright?"
