Possibilities

It was Eric’s turn to chuckle, and he gave Stacy a squeeze. “Maybe. But if not…at least we’re in it together, right?” He sighed and just leaned his head against hers. “Even though today has been hard…thanks…for letting me be included. It wasn’t fun, but knowing I’m filling that part of your and Ashlee’s lives is…nice. I just… I thought for so long I’d never have my own family…and then you showed up.”

He pulled back a little to look in her eyes before cocking his head and placing a kiss on her lips. “…and gave me a speeding ticket.” His eyes twinkled with humor as he tried not to laugh.

Hal’s eyes widened as Sam spit out her water, and he couldn’t help joining in her laughter. “Yeah well, from what I’ve seen, those two are definitely dating.”

Glancing at the monitors, he laughed again. “This one up here.” He pointed to the top corner screen. “And unfortunately, they quit sucking face about five minutes ago, so we can’t mess with them. However…” He swung his gaze back over to Sam, his eyes sparkling with humor. “There’s an intercom in there, which…could leave us with all sorts of possibilities.”

Scott swiveled back and forth in his chair as his computer worked out the information he’d input an hour ago. His mind was far from his work, though. He’d been staring into space for the last half hour, silent and so deep in thought that he had hardly heard anything going on around him.

Dalton had stayed with him at his house the last couple nights, and though it bothered him to no end, he hadn’t complained. He was petrified. He wanted it to be over. He wanted to wake up and find out it had just been a dream. But instead, he was in limbo. Reese was prepping to have a small team go to the building in question and dismantle the Agency equipment, but the whole thing had to be handled with care, so though they were working on it, they were proceeding with caution, which meant no rushing.

Scott’s swiveling came to a sudden halt, and he glanced over at Dalton. They hadn’t talked about this situation at all, other than just having the big man as his short-term bodyguard. But there was little else that had been on Scott’s mind. Without saying anything, he got up from his chair and left the office to wander down to Hope’s. After knocking and being let inside, he sat down in one of the extra chairs, and was silent for several moments. Eventually though, he looked up at Hope, his good eye filled with numerous emotions. “When you’re scared of something…you should face it, right?”
