Harris

Garret knew Nate was telling the truth when he said he believed him...and he appreciated it. It felt strange... it wasn't long ago at all that in this same position, he would have run. There was no way Reese was going to believe him, regardless of Nate's position. What Garret needed to do was take out Nate, grab his gun and get out. Steal the Elite vehicle, hightail it til he ran out of gas, then disappear. He was perfectly capable. It wouldn't be hard. And Nate would never even see it coming.

He nodded slowly as his shoulders dropped. "I'll come, don't worry. I knew I'd have to." Before leaving though, he took a rag and did a quick sweep of all the equipment he'd touched. For all they knew, the Agency could be back ten minutes after they left, and depending on who it was, they might be totally clueless anyone had been here, or they might notice something had happened - and the last thing he wanted was for his fingerprints to be found.

Once finished, he put his jacket back on and silently followed Nate back upstairs and outside. He tossed him the keys, knowing that it was better just to not argue and let Nate take the lead. It went against every fiber in his being...but it was the same feeling he'd had when talking to Scott earlier - he'd lost his edge, and couldn't fight.

Sitting in the car on the way back to the Elite, Garret remained quiet. There was nothing more that could be said unless Nate had questions. Otherwise...he had no defense. Only a note that no one else would believe.

Scott continued to shake as he lay in the backseat. Reality was skewed and he couldn't quite tell where he was or who was with him. He thought maybe he was in a vehicle, but wasn't sure.

There was a gentle warmth though... a soft comfort... something that sent light through the darkness. His eyes fluttered open to see a blurry image of Hope. It was her touch he felt, wasn't it? For a moment, he started to relax. But too suddenly, it all came back. Giving a lurch, his whole body tensed. "Harris," he whispered hoarsely. "Tell Carson... It's Harris... he's...he's...the one. Three-twenty-eight." His breathing grew more shallow. "You have...have to tell...Carson."

Jason glanced in the rearview mirror. "What's he saying? Is he awake?"

For but a moment, Scott was able to look up at Hope and bring her face into focus. He lifted his hand to brush her cheek, and opened his mouth to say more, but he hadn't the strength. All he could do was give her a faint smile before his hand slowly dropped, and his entire body went limp.

Eli gave a little shake of his head. He had no idea where Hunter was going with this, but he couldn't remember having been in Texas with Ryan before.

Hunter shrugged and reached for another slice of pizza. "I dunno." Truth. He really didn't know why he was thinking along these lines, but something had planted the seed in his mind. "I guess I just found myself there a while back and...it was a good experience."

Eli quirked an eyebrow. He did remember Hunter when he'd first started racing. He'd been arrogant, liked the girls' attention, and a drinker. Now? He did seem to have gone through some kind of change. Had it had anything to do with Katie? He wondered. He wasn't supposed to know any of that though, so he couldn't very well bring it up.

Hunter glanced over at Ryan again. "There's a horse ranch there. They...kinda helped me get my head on straight. Remember that one accident at the races?" The one where he'd just about killed another driver - accident or not, it had been his fault. "It really messed with me and I needed some time away. Get a different perspective. Got a wake-up call and... while I wound up messing up my knee, it was what I needed to finally get my head on straight."

Eli took a swig of his beer. Was Hunter referring to the R/M? Interesting.

"Of course..." Hunter gave her a wry grin. "It's the family of my now-ex-girlfriend, which makes things just a teeny bit awkward, but I still gotta go back sometime. They sort of adopted me and without any other family...it's nice."
