Gorgeous

Seeing Katie’s reaction, Jason’s heart swelled. He knew things had been going well between them, but there was always some natural worry that she’d shy away from anything more serious after all they’d been through. As she kissed his lips, at first he just let her, soaking up her affection. Then slowly he returned it, letting it grow in passion as she allowed. His palm reached up to caress her cheek, and he didn’t care about time or that it even existed at all. This was their moment and theirs alone.

As their kiss tapered off slowly, he smiled and rested his forehead against hers. “I love you, Katie. And I am so happy you’ve stuck it out with me. I know it hasn’t been easy.” Shifting a little and moving the rest of their lunch out of the way, he pulled her sideways into his lap and wrapped his arms around her to hold her close. He kissed her cheek then just let his head rest against hers. “I don’t know what I’d do without you,” he whispered. “I don’t know how I even survived all those times I wasn’t with you.”

Pete chuckled and nodded. “Yeah… Even Nikki and I knew each other as kids. Then life sent us separate ways and I didn’t see her for many years. And now we’re together.” Hanging out as teenagers seemed like such a very long time ago. So many memories had already faded.

Realizing he’d been lost in a stare, he blinked and returned his focus to his food. “So did you just now move into town? Did you need any help with anything?”

Together. Hunter just smiled and shook his head. He’d enjoy Ryan’s attention while he had it. Watching her eyes dance as she browsed the stock was almost as much fun as looking at the parts himself, and he had to laugh at how excited she was. He felt it too, he just didn’t usually see someone else get as excited as he got.

“Mmm…” He leaned his arm on her shoulder as his eyes roamed the turbo. “That…is a gorgeous piece of work.” He turned his head to look at her face instead, and bit his lip as he tried not to smile. Clearing his throat, he nodded and returned his attention to the part. “Who knows? Maybe one day this will be in your new car.” Would she ever have a new car? Would she ever race again? If he had to guess…he’d say yes. She was too excited in here to abandon her love of racing forever.
