Jason's eyes glanced to where Dylan was going into the kitchen.
He's been looking at us kinda strange all night. I've been trying to figure it out, but he's incredibly hard to read.
"Hey!" Jeff threw a crumpled napkin at Jason. "So which is it?"
Jason's attention snapped back over to the game. "Which is what?"
We've gotta get your dad a girl. He needs someone else to pick on.
Jason snaked his ankle around Katie's under the table, the intensity of his humorous emotions increasing as they made contact.
Jeff rolled his eyes. "Never mind."
Travis grimaced at the cards he was being dealt, and threw Ashlee a withering look. "So much for knocking their socks off. I hope you got better cards than I do." He stifled a yawn and shook his head. "I'm not sure I can even last another round."
His foot tapped hers and he grinned, lowering his voice. "Walk you to your bunk later..."
Seeing he'd pleased Destiny, Zan's smile grew. "You're welcome." He settled back and revealed his own treat - hot tamales.
As the movie started, the lawn grew quieter. It was a good enough show... a little slow for Zan's tastes but he wasn't going to complain. The plot did seem to drag on a bit though, and he found himself getting more and more fidgety. His boredom finally got the best of him.
Taking a piece of candy between his fingers, he kept it low so nobody would see, then flicked it in the air. It was just light enough out still to see it arc high before coming down in someone's lap a short distance in front of them. The person jumped and flailed their arms - probably assuming they'd just been attacked by a flying insect - and looked around in bewilderment before focusing back on the movie.
Zan's eyes were huge and he sank down a little further in his chair, trying hard not to laugh. He stuffed another couple hot tamales in his mouth and purposely didn't look at Destiny for fear he'd burst out laughing.
The credits rolled. The music faded. And the silence in the apartment roused Hal's senses. Somehow in his sleep, he'd wound up turned, using Sam as a full pillow with his arm around her. Only realizing now the kind of position he was in, he moved quickly to release her. "Sorry," he mumbled as he sat up, feeling heat in his face. "Guess I... really did fall asleep."
He fumbled to find the television remote and stopped the dvd before it looped back to the menu. Daring a little glance at Sam, he hoped he hadn't made her feel awkward. He hadn't meant to at all.
