Supper

Travis could feel Ashlee trembling slightly, and felt badly – was he scaring her? He hadn’t meant to. He was ready to back off, but then realized she was leaning back into him a little bit. Maybe she liked it more than he thought. He chuckled as he kept working. “Not really. Just a tip from my dad is all. He likes to do things the most efficient way. Which...can sometimes get on my nerves, but generally he’s right.”

He worked just a few more moments before he withdrew and let Ashlee work on her own again. Even so, his shoulder still rested against hers as he worked on a separate piece of leather. “Are you–” His sentence was cut short by someone appearing in the doorway.

“Ah. There you two are.” Mick grinned as he stepped inside. “Your dad was looking for you, Travis. I don’t think it was anything urgent but I said if I saw you, I’d let you know.” He looked around at the pieces of they’d worked on, and nodded. “Thanks, guys...this looks real good.”

Travis created just an inch or two gap between himself and Ashlee before smiling. “I was bored. Ashlee was showing me the ropes and we just...kept going.”

“Well good. It’s a big help. Supper won’t be too long now if you wanna start helping with some evening chores.”

After Mick had left, Travis glanced over at Ashlee and bit his lip as he grinned at her just a bit sheepishly. “Guess that’s my cue. See you at supper?”

Morning. Aaron lay awake on his cot, having slept only an hour or two all night. His knee had kept him awake, and now still throbbed, making his whole leg burn. He was more angry with himself than anything, for allowing himself to lose just enough control to wind up in this state. He resented the fact that Sam had physically pushed him around, but he knew the worst jarring had been his own doing.
He glanced at the clock on the wall. Breakfast would be served soon. Sam or Hal? He wondered. At this point though, he didn’t really care. His pain was far greater than any hunger right now.

The sun was just barely coming up over the horizon, but Garret had been outside for half an hour already. Rising before the rest of the house, he’d gotten dressed and come out to the backyard. He’d spent half the night in the chair in the living room until he’d woken up at some point and taken himself to bed. He had no idea when the others had stopped playing their game or gone to bed, and someone had brought him a blanket, but he’d been dead to the world. Now though, he hadn’t been able to sleep any longer, nor had he been able to stay in the bedroom any longer. His boredom was forcing him from his hibernation whether he liked it or not.

Now outside, his bare feet moved through the grass as he took himself through multiple fight routines and combinations, all to an invisible foe. Sweat trickled down the sides of his face – he had neglected this for too long.

Inside, Laura returned to the bedroom after having used the bathroom, and slid back into bed next to Nate, whom she knew was waking up as well. Nuzzling into him, she sighed. She’d like to just stay here all day but...unfortunately, that wasn’t an option. “Our houseguest is up and outside,” she commented quietly. “Not sure what he’s doing, but it’s fascinating. At least he’s outside... I thought after yesterday he might withdraw again but maybe he’d actually go to work with you today.”
