Touch

Zan was glad to see the light in Destiny's eyes again. He'd been concerned earlier, but maybe the day had been enough of a distraction from her worries that tomorrow would be brighter now. He smiled and nodded. "We're definitely going to pick this up again."

He left the living room as it was for now, and wouldn't let Destiny help clean up - he'd do it later. The drive to her house didn't take long, and before he knew it, he was pulling up to the curb. "I'll walk you to the door," he offered. Maybe it was old fashioned, but it was a good excuse to add at least another thirty seconds before having to part ways.

Once they'd reached her front door, he turned to look down at her, and smiled. Spotting a strand of hair that the breeze had played with, he instinctively reached out and brushed it back behind her ear, letting his touch linger on the side of her face. "Thanks for spending the day with me," he mentioned quietly.

Aaron strapped his knee brace on and stood up, flexing his leg just a little, although it was pretty stiff and sore from his adventure at the lake yesterday. JT would probably chide him later, but he didn't care. He'd enjoyed himself.

This morning he was fully dressed and had showered before anyone had arrived to work. At least he did have that luxury here. He grabbed a single crutch and opened his door, glancing both ways down the hallway. He was pretty sure Sam was here already, and just wanted to see what time they'd be able to talk to Reese since she'd said they could this morning. He'd heard some footsteps but hadn't been paying enough attention to know whose they were.

He hobbled down to the security room where the door was open, and was about to knock, when he stopped. Seeing Hal just leaning down over Sam's shoulder, then seeing her kiss his hand, he blinked then backed up a step. He'd known they worked closely together, but he hadn't picked up on that. Glancing back at them for just another second or two, he finally turned and went back to his room without interrupting them. Sitting down on the edge of the bed again, his eyes studied the floor. This place was getting more miserable by the second. He had to get out of here.

Hal grinned as Sam kissed his hand, then moved around to sit in his chair. "Mm-hmm..." His eyes twinkled a little as he answered her question. "After you left, I was out. Didn't wake up til my alarm went off this morning."

He took a slow sip of coffee and sighed deeply. Good night sleep or not, the drink still hit the spot. "I was thinking... if spending the evening with you is all it takes to sleep like that, then maybe we ought to do it more often." His grin returned to accompany the teasing in his tone. "Unless, you know, there's a risk of overdose."

"Dylan, have you met Pete?" Jason stood at Pete's cubicle after checking in with Reese and keeping Dylan close.

Dylan shook his head. "I don't think so. I think you were at the ranch before I got there."

Pete nodded. "I think so too." He held out his hand. "Good to have ya. Word has it you're gonna be around here for a little while."

"Yeah." Dylan managed a half smile as he shook his hand.

Jason set his hands on his hips. "Reese would like you to show Dylan around then take him back to his office. You got time?"

"Sure thing."

"Okay. I'll catch you later, Dylan."

"Yeah." Dylan watched Jason leave then looked back to Pete. It really didn't bother him, being in a strange place with people he didn't know. He just wanted to absorb and do a good job at whatever he was asked to do.

Pete set aside some paperwork and gave him a nod. "Alright. Grand tour. Come on." He made sure to introduce him to Ron first since he was closest, then moved on to Sapphire and Jamie. Dylan at least knew Con, and of course Jason and Katie. It was much different here than he'd expected - probably what he thought he'd see was what this place would become, considering the description of the new building they'd be moving to. He was very quiet, but shook a lot of hands and tried to remember names as he was introduced. Not everybody was in yet, so he knew he'd be meeting more people later. The rec room downstairs was of interest, and he got the idea he might be helping Susanne a bit with some filing. Overall, everyone seemed nice enough, though Dylan wasn't sure how much he'd actually be interacting with anybody.

Eventually they wound up back at Reese's office and Reese took over. Dylan learned he'd be reporting to Reese himself every day, and would be assigned to help different people as needs arose. As suspected, he'd probably be making a lot of copies and running paperwork back and forth, but he was free to ask as many questions as he liked, and unless a case was classified, he'd be allowed to learn how they operated and handled situations. There would also be some amount of training involved...

Reese wandered to Nate's cubicle with Dylan and knocked on the wall. "Nate - I'd like you to meet Dylan Henson. He's Mick's son - the one that's going to be around here for a little while."

Dylan stepped forward to shake his hand, taking him in with a long glance. There was a sense of peace about him and Dylan immediately liked him.

Reese then gestured to the other man. "This is Garret Jackson. He's..."

Garret folded his arms and waited several long seconds before smirking, then offered a hand to Dylan. "I'm an ex-Agency operative and Nate's my handler."

Though hesitating on the inside, Dylan accepted the handshake. Ex-Agency? Really? No wonder he looked like a military man. He had a confusing air about him that Dylan couldn't quite make out on his first impression, and he could feel his insides tighten a little, just knowing who he was.

Reese looked to Nate again. "I'd like Dylan to have a little bit of physical training while he's here, to get a taste of some hand-to-hand. My idea was to have Garret take that on. Depending on... what you thought of the idea."

Garret's eyebrows rose just about as high as Dylan's, and he glanced at Nate. He'd actually love to train somebody - he was dying to do more than just paperwork. But was Reese serious? To actually trust him with someone - anyone - let alone a young man - let alone the son of Mick Henson?

Pick

Hearing Tavis' voice and seeing him Ashlee greeted him with a smile. The morning had come early but strangely enough, she felt awake. More than likely the coffee she was drinking helped with that too.

"I know, I didn't even see you in passing this morning, but I get to see you now so I should be able to survive now."

Leaning into him and giving him a quick kiss Ashlee pulled away and smiled. A picnic lunch sounded good to her. Most of her morning was going to be busy so having something in the afternoon to look forward too sounded perfect.

"A picnic with you sounds perfect. You get to pick what we have this time too."

Laughing again as Zan threw his controller Destiny sat back on the couch and let out a long sigh.  She couldn't remember a time when she had laughed this much before and if she had it had been a long time since.

"That was fun, thank you so much."

Looking at the time Destiny was sad it was so late already. She really was having fun, but she new Zan had to drive her home, and it was getting late. There would be another time she hoped to have some more fun like this.

"It more than likely would be a good idea if I head home, even if I don't want too. We will have to pick it up another day!"

As Hal leaned over her with the coffee Sam chuckled looking up at Hal. Feeling the soft kiss on her cheek though she smiled. Everything about Hal seemed perfect. He made her feel so special.

"Mmm...I forgot coffee this morning so this is perfect before the meeting with Reese."

Taking Hal's free hand Sam gave it a kiss before taking her coffee and sipping it. It tasted really good this morning as she closed her eyes for a second and just enjoying the taste.

"Sleep well last night? I was out when I got home."

A Zillion Times

Mick chuckled at Rosetta and took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. That was his cue to try and sleep so she could sleep. Rolling over onto his side, he pulled Rosetta close, tucking her under his arm and giving her cheek a kiss. “Goodnight, Love.”

The morning did come early, and though tired, coffee helped, and Mick went about chores as usual. It really was strange not having Dylan around. It wasn’t too difficult to fill in the holes in work, but it just felt odd not seeing Dylan walking the barn or slipping in for breakfast later than anyone else so he could avoid conversation…

... “Hey.” Travis slipped in a chair next to Ashlee at the breakfast table, bumping shoulders with her before smiling. He glanced at her hat, then back down to her eyes. He’d wanted to team up with her at feeding time this morning, but he’d been given a different task – probably since they were readjusting things since Dylan wasn’t here. “Thought I’d never get a chance to see ya,” he teased. “I was wondering if you wanted to go on a picnic for lunch later.”

Zan laughed and nodded. “We’re definitely playing another round so I can redeem myself. I am so not losing this one.”

It had been a long time since he’d played with someone other than one of the guys, and he was thoroughly enjoying Destin’s company. She was a very quick learn, she was funny, conversation was intelligent, and she just… made him feel good.

Playing on, the drinks were soon gone, the popcorn bowl was empty, and the all out-and-out war had left Zan and Destiny just about even. After falling into a pit of lava, Zan tossed his controller in the air, letting it fall to the far corner of the couch. “I give up!” he wailed. “I’ve played this level a zillion times – it’s your fault.” He stuck his tongue out at her. “You distract me.”

Stretching out tall, he yawned and looked at the clock. He really didn’t want this evening to end. He was still having fun. But it was late and she was at his apartment. He relaxed again and sighed. “I guess I oughtta get you home, huh?”

Hunter groaned as he rolled out of bed. He wanted to sleep at least another hour or two, but having someone moving around the apartment made it hard. It wasn’t Dylan’s fault, and Hunter knew he’d get used to it – but he might as well at least say hi this morning. Maybe he’d go back to bed in a while.

After hitting the bathroom, he wandered to the kitchen. Lights were on, coffee was made and Dylan was at the table, fully showered and dressed, and finishing a bowl of cereal. Hunter smirked. “What time did you get up anyway?”

Dylan gave him a crooked grin. “I dunno. I’ve been awake since about five.”

“You. Are. Nuts.” Hunter poured himself some coffee and took a long swig. “Mm. You make pretty good coffee though.”

Dylan just shook his head. “You gotta remember I’m used to being done with a whole barn full of chores by now.” He glanced at his watch. Jason would be here any minute. Finishing his cereal quickly, he rinsed the bowl and downed the rest of his coffee. “Told Jason I’d be outside waiting. I gotta go.”

“Right, right.” Hunter leaned back against the counter sleepily. “You be alright til tonight?”

“Yeah. I don’t have a clue what I’ll be doing all day. What time’s that race tonight?”

“Not til late. Right around dark. Coming back here after work?”

“I’ll make sure I get back here somehow.” Dylan gave him a wave and headed for the door. “Later.”

“Yep.” Hunter waved drowsily. Well, at least Dylan knew how to take care of himself. It looked like having him here was going to be pretty easy.

Hal wandered into the security room just a few minutes later than normal, two coffees in hand. Seeing Sam already, he smiled and came up behind her. He reached over her shoulder to set her coffee in front of her, then leaned down to plant a kiss on her cheek. “Good morning. Hope you haven’t had your coffee yet. It was calling out to me as I drove by.”

Sooner

   "Mmm...you know I will."

Just soaking in Mick's soft affection Rosetta could feel herself slipping to sleep. It had been a long day and her body was just tired, not to mention relaxed being so close to Mick. It had always been like that, and the feeling never faded.

"It's not that long...the sooner you sleep too the sooner he will be back."

Getting Dylan's texts Ashlee smiled. She hoped if he did need anyone to talk too he would message her. She didn't know if he would, but she did hope. Setting her phone down Ashlee just looked into the dark for a long moment before her eyes finally got heavy and drifted closed. Tomorrow would come early, she had to sleep at least a little.

Giving Zan a nudge back Destiny laughed at he died again almost so hard she almost died herself again too.

   "Oh Oh Oh oh...no no...phew."

Destiny sat up a little straighter on the couch as she tried to regain control of her character. Getting it and finishing the level she sat back again next to Zan realizing how close they were but not minding. Turning her head and looking at him for a long moment she finally smiled.

"Play another rough and I'll think about not telling anyone you were beaten by a girl who doesn't even know how to play video games."

Sworn to Secrecy

Mick smiled as Rosetta kissed him, and rubbed her arm lovingly. "Thanks. Just keep reminding me of that, okay?" He sighed and stared up into the dark. He knew he needed to get to sleep or he'd be exhausted tomorrow, but his mind was still full. "Twelve weeks," he mused quietly. "It seems so short, and so long at the same time."

Dylan yawned and closed his eyes, but they flew open again as his phone vibrates under his pillow. Pulling it out and seeing Ashlee had texted him back, his eyebrows rose. He honestly hadn't expected a reply, let alone at this hour.

As the next couple messages followed, his lips curled into a smile. He could feel the expression on her face, and for a moment, the ranch didn't seem so far away.

Good.
No need to promise...
it's yours.

He waited a moment to send another.

:)

Sliding his phone back under his pillow, he rolled over and closed his eyes. In spite of his determination to be here, he couldn't help the butterflies in his stomach. Tomorrow he'd get to see the Elite office and start a new adventure. It's what he wanted, right? To get away from the ranch and see and do new things?

He started to drift off when a distant car alarm made him jump. His ears picked up a revving engine, and someone rattling some garbage cans. He'd forgotten what it was like to live with city noise. But he'd get used to it... right?

Zan's jaw dropped. "Scared? Me?" He ate some more popcorn. "Of course I am. You're gonna beat me and I'll never live it down."

He nudged her with his arm. "You're now sworn to secrecy if I lose. It's a rule." No sooner had he said it and in the game he died again. His mouth opened and he dropped a piece of popcorn. "Okay that's it. Gloves are coming off now."

Stretching out his legs, he propped them on the coffee table instead, then snuggled closer right up next to Destiny. "Maybe you're the cheat."

Better

Hearing Mick's phone go off  Rosetta lifted her head for a second before laying it sleepily back on the pillow. Hearing Dylan made it safe Rosetta let out her own sigh of relief She was happy to know he was safe, and no Mick would rest easier now too.

Hearing his next comment Rosetta tightened her arm around him a little and lifted her head. Giving him a quick kiss her eyes twinkled even in her sleepy state.

"You did. He's going to be ok. He is in good hands."

Laying in bed Ashlee had just turned her light off when she heard her phone. Grabbing it from the nightstand and turning it on she squinted at the screen as the light was bright in the dark. Finally letting her eyes adjust she read the text and smiled. She was glad Dylan had messaged her. She didn't think he would.

Hey! Not asleep yet. Thanks for
messaging me or I would of
worried all night.

Sending the message Ashlee waited for a second before starting a new one.

Have a good time Dylan and
don't hesitate to message me
any time.

Sending it again she smiled and then started another remembering something.

Trent helped me put some felt
in your hat so it fits me better
now. I won't let it out of my
sight. Promise!

Laughing Destiny took the popcorn that had been throw at her and eat that too between her giggles. Hearing his comment again she grew quiet thinking for a long moment. What he said really was true though.

"It's to late to be so deep. Remind me in the morning ok?"

As he offered to put a movie in Destiny gasped and shook her head as she stuck her thoung out a little bit in deep concentration.

"No way, I am just getting the hang of this. Unless...you are scared I am gonna start getting better then you."

Text

"I'm not cheating!" Zan tossed a piece of popcorn at Destiny as he laughed. She acted like she was having a good time, and he was glad. He was certainly enjoying the company, and enjoying watching her play the games too. "See? I'll prove it." He intentionally made his character walk off the edge of a cliff. "There."

Settling back, he pulled his feet up in front of him, resting his forearms on his knees. By now, they'd sunk closer together in the couch, and his shoulder was resting against hers. "Trick is not to panic," he mused, avoiding a flying predator. "Kinda like life, I guess. Crap happens but generally you don't die from it. You just gotta... climb back up."

He paused, then gave her a sidelong glance, accompanied by a grin. "That was way deeper than I intended." He grabbed a couple more kernels of popcorn to eat before sipping his can of vanilla Pepsi. "Would you rather watch a movie?" It was getting later in the evening, and he knew he'd have to take her home whenever she wanted, but he was game for anything, and was far from tired.

Hunter watched Ryan leave before closing and locking the door. "Well..." He turned to Dylan with a smile. "I'll help you get settled so you can get some shut-eye. Come on."

Dylan grabbed his bags again and followed him to the extra room. "So... Eli is Ryan's brother, and he has a girlfriend, Scarlet."

"Right. And then there's Zan - he's another racer you'll meet tomorrow. And Jett - he's a sidekick likes to hang around Zan and help out."

Dylan nodded. "Alright. Hey, thanks for letting me be here. I know it was kinda short notice. I don't wanna be a bother, so don't feel like you need to include me in everything."

Hunter smirked and leaned on the open doorway. "I don't do anything I don't wanna. I'm glad you're here - really. I wouldn't have said yes otherwise. So when I invite you alone, it means I want you there. Got it?"

Dylan gave him a half a grin. "Okay. Got it."

"Let your dad know you got here in one piece?"

"Just gonna do that now." Dylan held up his phone.

"Alright. Well, bathroom's next door. Clean towels are there. Anything in the kitchen is free game too, so help yourself. Sounds like you'll be up before me in the morning."

"Got it." Dylan really was fine with anything. He knew he was at the mercy of others out here, and wouldn't complain about anything. Left alone to get settled, he sent his dad a quick text then got ready for bed.

Lying on the air mattress a while later, he fingered his phone again, debating. Finally he started another text.
Hey Ash. Ur prolly in
bed, but just wanted
to let you know I made
it to NV in one piece.

His thumb hovered over the send button. She wouldn't be worried. She'd hear the next day he'd made it. Texting her really was pointless. He debated for at least a full minute before finally sending it. She'd appreciate it.

Mick lay on his back in bed, far from sleep as his phone buzzed on the nightstand. Grabbing it quickly, he saw Dylan's message and breathed a sigh. He was glad he'd gotten to Hunter's safely and just hoped it was the start of a good thing.

He ran his fingers along Rosetta's arm that was draped over him. "I did the right thing, right?" he asked softly. "Letting him go?"

Cheating

Looking around Zan's apartment she smiled. It definitely was a single guys apartment but it wasn't as bad as it could be. It was easy to tell Zan liked to keep things clean.

   "I think its pretty cozy."

As Zan told her where eveything was and then disappeared into the bathroom she couldn't help but chuckle. It was kind of cute he was so worried what she would think of his apartment. Once he came back Destiny smiled and nodded. At least she new now if she had to use the restroom she wouldn't be attacked by anything.

Getting settled on the couch with a cold glass of water Destiny took in everything showered her on the controler. She wasn't very good but she got the idea of what she needed to do and was still having fun with Zan. Not to mention he was more than likely seeing a side of her he never would have thought as she would yell when she would die.

"I think you are cheating...yep...thats definitely what it is."

Destiny popped another piece of popcorn in her mouth grinning at Zan.

Ryan's eyes twinkled hearing Dylan would come. She knew he would have fun and everyone would be there to keep an eye on him too. She was confident especially if he was going to hang out with Scarlet he would be ok.

"Scarlet my brother Eli's girlfriend said you can hang out with her while we are taking care of business too. It won't be a normal race tomorrow but at least it will be something to wet your whistle on."

Ryan turned to Hunter again and gave him a quick kiss and a smile before heading to the door. Hearing he was going to go for that job she smiled and nodded.

"Good Luck, I know you will impress them."

Laughing

Zan chuckled and shook his head. "It'll be fun. And if you don't like it, we'll pop a movie in instead." He saw a flash of hesitance in her eye, and was afraid he'd made her feel awkward, but was glad she said yes. He'd be extra careful to make sure she wasn't uncomfortable. He wasn't used to being around women like her but... he liked this a lot better.

A walk through the park was nice, and helped ease the full stomachs. It was a nice evening, and once they'd gotten to Zan's apartment, it had grown dark.

"It's... not much to look at..." Zan flipped on the lights in his apartment as he led Destiny inside.  "But it's home." He quickly grabbed some trash to throw away, and set some dirty dishes in the sink. He kept a fairly neat place, but it was still a bachelor pad. "Just living room and kitchen... bedroom there." He pointed to a short hallway. "Spare room full of crap, and... bathroom's right there if you need it - just ignore the..." He paused. "On second thought... wait here." He disappeared for about thirty seconds in the bathroom to hide the mess, then reappeared wearing a sheepish grin. "Okay... let me introduce you to some fun games."

Getting settled on the couch, he made sure not to crowd her, and showed her the controllers, explaining the game they could play together. It didn't take long before he was laughing - whether she was getting caught by a creature, running into walls or totally missing targets. Focused too much on her, he was walking off cliffs and getting run over by boulders. It didn't matter though - just sitting together playing and eating snacks was fun.

Dylan wasn't sure who Eli was, but he grinned anyway. It was kinda nice to see Ryan and and she looked happier than she'd been at the ranch. "Tomorrow?"

"Oh yeah." Hunter folded his arms. "Got something going down at the races. We're taking out some riffraff who thinks he can bully the novice racers."

Dylan's eyebrows rose. "Taking out?"

"As in forcing him off the track by means of  driving tactics and overall humiliation."

Dylan nodded slowly. "Sounds like a blast."

Hunter laughed. "We're hoping it won't be, but you're invited to come along. How late you gotta work?"

"Prolly til five." Dylan shrugged. "I'll most likely just be shown around and told how to make coffee and copies so coming to see where you race would be fun."

"Alright then." Hunter grinned and stepped closer to Ryan, giving her a quick kiss. "Then we'll both see you tomorrow night. Oh, and wish me luck. I'm gonna check out that job opening at the auto parts store."

Easy

Hearing the knock on the door caused Ryan to jump a little as she had been in the moment with Hunter. Grinning as she dumped him on the couch she turned so she could see the door too.

Seeing Dylan Ryan waved. She was happy he made it ok. Now the fun started and at least Hunter wouldn't be bored around the house with Dylan there to keep him company.

"Heya Dylan. Happy you made it."

At Dylan's comment, Ryan stood and laughed. She did want to stay longer but now that Dylan was here she knew it would be best if she left for now. That last thing she wanted to do was give him the wrong impression.

"Thank you but I should more then likely get going. If I don't Eli will send the hounds after me. See you guys tomorrow though?"

"I think saving for our own place is a great idea. I think it would make us feel good knowing that we did that. Doesn't have to happen in a week, but over time for sure."

Seeing Gunner was tired Bree snuggled in closer to him letting her arm just drape over his chest. Maybe this would help him have some good dreams is he slept.

"Rest now...I'll be here when you wake."

   "A walk sounds nice..."

Destiny searched Zan's eyes for a long moment. She didn't think he had any ill intentions, not after the conversation they had, but still, she felt a little leery. Why thought? Zan was a good guy she should just do it and not think too much of it. Smiling she needed.

"I'me gonna be honest here...I haven't played many video games but I am willing to give it a shot as long as you take it easy on me."

Keep Me Awake

Hal soaked in Sam's kiss, returning it gladly until she pulled away. He smiled again and reached out to brush her cheek. "Goodnight, Sam. See you tomorrow."

Once he was alone, he shut off all the lights, closed the patio doors and wandered to bed. Lying in the dark, his mind replayed the evening. Did they really have something going here? If he was reading Sam correctly, she definitely was enjoying herself. But...where was all this leading? Maybe it didn't matter. Maybe he just needed to enjoy the moments for what they were. And what they were right now was lovely.

Gunner chuckled and nodded. "Your uncle for sure, and Con. Maybe just them and Jamie and Amanda. That would be nice." There were others who might feel snubbed, but that was their problem. The more Gunner thought about it, the more he liked the small idea.

Shifting his thoughts, he sighed and leaned his head back in his pillow. His exhaustion was catching up to him. "Yeah, I guess my place is a little bigger," he agreed. "I'd definitely want to save for another place though. If for nothing else, just so it can be... ours."

He desperately tried to keep his heavy eyes open and smiled. "You're amazing, and I love you."

Zan looked cross-eyed at the sauce on his nose and he laughed at Destiny's sarcasm. "Well I'm glad you can pencil me in to your busy schedule." He grabbed a napkin to wipe off the sauce then tossed it at Destiny. "We could... start by walking off this pizza then... hang out at my place for a movie or video games..." He hadn't had her over to his place yet, and wondered if she'd be okay with that. If not, he'd be perfectly content going back to her place. He just wanted to at least offer.

Hunter grinned at Ryan and nudged her leg. "The kissing part sounds good," he agreed. "But I suppose the coffee is a good idea too..."

...It wasn't long before they'd both left and gone to his apartment. He cleaned up a few more things and got the air mattress in the spare room aired up with Ryan's help. Eventually though, they wound up on the couch as usual, letting a movie play as they drank coffee and enjoyed each other's company...

"Mm-hmm..." Hunter lay on his back with Ryan on top of him, continuing his affection. "Told ya this part... sounded good..." He deepened his kiss, just letting himself fall into the moment as his arms tightened around her and his foot rubbed against her leg. He was just getting ready to shift around when a knock at the door made him jump. "Crap." He looked up at Ryan sheepishly. "Is it that time already?"

Sitting up, he took her with him before dumping her back onto the couch. Yep. It was just after midnight. Time had totally slipped away. Opening up the door and seeing Dylan, Hunter smiled. "Hey! You made it!"

Dylan gave him a crooked grin. "No thanks to Rick's slow driving." He managed to get inside with his backpack and large duffel bag. Immediately spotting Ryan, he wasn't surprised. He'd assumed that was her car he'd seen parked next to Hunter's.

Hunter wandered back towards the living room. "Ryan's been helping... keep me awake."

"Uh huh." Dylan nodded in mock belief. "I'm sure she was doing a great job."

Hunter just smirked. "Take a load off. How was the trip?"

Dylan set his bags down and shrugged. "Boring. Not bad though." He took off his army-green baseball cap and scratched his head. "Been a while since I had a road trip that long."

"Well... you hungry? Wanna stay up a while or go to bed?"

"Um... seeing as though Jason's gonna pick me up at eight... I should probably try to get some sleep."

Hunter cringed. "Didn't even give you a day to relax huh?"

"My choice," Dylan clarified. He looked between Hunter and Ryan, hiding another grin. "Don't um... don't let me interrupt your 'staying awake' now."

Party Every Night...

"I love you more than anything, and the size of our wedding doesn't change that. I kind of feel like...smaller will mean more. But we have to invite my Uncle or I won't make it past the honeymoon."

Accepting another kiss from Gunner Bree thought about his question for a long moment. She hadn't thought about where they would live actually. It was something good to think about though.

"Well, we could always stay at your apartment, or mine and save to buy a house outside of town some time.  As long as I am with you, any place will be home. I think your place is a little bigger then mine though so that might give us some more space."

As Zan leaned in closer Destiny couldn't help but giggle a little leaning in too. Looking around the table at the colors she could feel her cheeks get warm before looking back to Zan.

"Oh yeah, I'm a busy person. Didn't you know that? Party every night, totally big social circle."

Taking a pepperoni that had been on her plate she thwapped Zan on the nose with it leaving a little trail of sauce before taking the pepperoni and eating it. Humor danced in her eyes as she chuckled again.

"I guess I could cancel everything though if you wanted to hang out some more or something."

   "Coffee...lots of it."

Ryan smiled at Hunter before giving a stretch and a yawn. It wasn't even really that late and yet it felt like it was. Maybe it was just from all the excitement this afternoon.

"How about coffee at your place, a movie, some kissing...more coffee. I can't let you fall asleep before Dylan gets there. Someone has got to let the poor boy inside."

Helping Hal clean up Sam didn't mind. It meant she didn't have to go quite yet. But the clean up could only last so long and finally, everything was done and she knew it was that time. Walking to the door Sam stopped and smiled at Hal. She really did have a good night.

"This was a really good night. Thank you, and thanks for cooking again."

Bringing her hand to the side of Hal's face Sam leaned in and placed a kiss on his lips. Just letting it linger or a long moment she pulled away still smiling.

Busy evening?

Gunner looked at Bree, genuinely surprised. "Really? You'd want to do that?" He brushed a strand of hair back from her face. "You deserve a whole lot more than that, you know..."

They hadn't even talked about any wedding plans at all, let alone the type of wedding, a date, or even where they'd live afterwards. His issues had gotten in the way of a lot of things.

"But I will be happy with whatever you pick, because what makes you smile makes me smile." He leaned in for another long kiss. He knew she didn't want to hear his concerns about being a burden. He knew she didn't want to hear his concerns about how they'd survive financially. Or his concerns about his foggy future.

Drawing back again, he rested his forehead against hers. "Any thoughts on where we're gonna live? I gotta have some kind of picture to make sure I don't spend the rest of my life in that Brookshire room."

Eli smirked at Scarlet. "So I'm slow on the uptake. Give me a break." He slung his arm around her and gave her a squeeze which almost pulled her out of his chair, and he just grinned.

Hunter chuckled and nodded. "Thanks, Scarlet. I'll see if Dylan even wants to come at all, but if he does, you can keep an eye on him. That'll be one less worry for me."

Jett sat back and just watched. It didn't take a genius to see Hunter and Eli had purposely ignored his offer and concentrated on Scarlet instead. They were all so friendly earlier, but they didn't obviously didn't trust him. He shouldn't care. It shouldn't bother him. But... deep down... it did. He sighed and finished off his pop before standing. "I better go get Tony's car back to the junkyard."

Zan looked up quickly. "Oh yeah. Alright." Was something wrong? He couldn't quite tell. "Wanna hang later?"

Jett opened his mouth to say yes, but then changed his mind. Zan had better things to do with better friends. "Nah. I, um... I got stuff I'm gonna do. I'll see you at the race tomorrow though."

"Sure." Zan shrugged. "Take it easy."

"Yeah." Jett was just walking out when he snapped his finger and spun around to look at Hunter. "Forgot. Job opening at TJ's. You mentioned you might be looking."

Hunter's eyebrows rose. He knew the auto parts store. "Oh yeah. Thanks. I might check it out."

"Sure." Jett threw the table - including Destiny - one last glance before finally leaving.

Zan leaned a little closer to Destiny. "How about you? Busy evening planned?"

Hunter sighed and looked at his watch. "Well... Dylan won't get here for a long while yet but I gotta stay awake." He quirked a silly grin at Ryan. "Any ideas?"

Hal lifted his head and opened his eyes again to grin down at Sam. "You think too much." He stifled a yawn. "But you're probably right."

He shifted and helped Sam sit up so he didn't jostle her too much as he stood. Stretching tall, he yawned again and collected their dishes to take them back inside.

Too soon, he was at the front door with Sam, giving her a sleepy smile. "Thanks for the relaxing evening... This was nice."

Keep Me

"Dylan is a good kid, with a good head on his shoulder. I'd never suggested him to come otherwise. He could use some good friends too."

Ryan smiled at Zan and then looked back at Hunter. She new some of what Hunter had told her about Dylan and his past and really he needed some friends. When she had seen him at the ranch she could see how different he was around Hunter. That good influence would be good for him.

Feeling Eli's nudge Scarlet look at him and rolled her eyes taking another bite of pizza and chewing it. Leaning into him a little her eyes twinkled. She wouldn't mind at all keeping an eye on Dylan and getting him out of there if things got crazy.

"That's what I just said...and I wouldn't mind that at all. It would at least keep me out of trouble too."

Bree accepted Gunner's kiss and wrapped her arms around him. Returning the kiss she just let everything, all her emotions flow through her showing how much she cared for him. She didn't care what happens, she would always be here for him.

Pulling back and hearing his comment Bree searched his face for a long moment. Was this really what he wanted? She couldn't help the smile that spread across her face as her heart raced. She had been waiting a long time for this.

"I would like that very much. Maybe have my Uncle, and Con come and we can Elope!"

   "Maybe its both?"

Sam closed her eyes as the cool wind blew. It felt nice to just be and not really worry about much. She felt comfortable with Hal and she liked that about him. She really didn't want to go yet, but maybe it was for the best.

"I should probley get going before we both fall asleep. I really did have a nice night. Thank you."

To Celebrate

Hunter glanced over at Scarlet and scrunched his nose just a little. "I... don't know. I was just thinking about that. I mean... hopefully we go in, give Thunder a little whupping and go. But there's a chance there could be trouble and I'm not sure it would be the best way to introduce Dylan to the races."

Eli nibbled on a pizza crust, just listening. "He might be pretty tired after his first day here, too."

"True." Hunter shrugged. "I might just tell him what's going on and let him decide for himself."

Zan cocked his head. "Who's this?"

"Kid from Texas gonna be staying with me for a while," Hunter explained.

Zan immediately wondered how wise this was. "Kid?"

"Mm." Hunter shook his head. "Eighteen. He can take care of himself - trust me. I just wanna avoid any sticky situations if I can since I'll be kind of responsible for him."

"Ah." Zan still wasn't convinced it was a good idea. Nothing too bad actually happened at the racing site - at least not as long as you stuck around the level-headed crowd. But there was plenty of alcohol, so having an underage spectator could really put some people on edge with a fear of cops showing up. "Are you sure-"

"You'd never guess his age," Hunter assured. He knew exactly what Zan was thinking. "He's not gonna try to drink or anything else and no cops are gonna show up because of him. I'll be surprised if anybody even notices he's there at all. He's good at blending in."

Zan shrugged. "Okay. What if there is trouble with Thunder?"

"I could always take him out if need be," Jett offered.

Hunter chewed on his lower lip. Dylan would be just fine, but Jett? Really?

"You think you're not gonna be in the thick of it if a fight breaks out?" Eli interjected. He recognized Hunter's dilemma and wanted to solve this quickly without any hard feelings. "The only person here not involved is Scarlet." He nudged her with his elbow. "Thunder's a bully - he's not gonna want to face us all. But if he does, you wanna slip Dylan out?"

"Tired? Of you?" Gunner pushed aside his lunch tray and slipped his arms around Bree's waist, bringing her right up against him on the bed. "I'm pretty sure that's not even possible."

He leaned up to give her another, longer kiss. All of his movements might be a bit clumsy right now, but he wasn't even close to giving up on showing her his affection. Especially now. He'd never be able to make all this up to her and he knew it. All he could do was try to give her as much love as she was giving him.

Drawing back, he brought a hand up to gently rake through her hair. "How about... soon as I'm released from Brookshire... we get married to celebrate?" He searched her eyes deeply. "Life's too short, and if I'm gonna have to face all this the rest of my days, I don't wanna miss out on life with you 'cause I let it beat me."

"True..." Hal's voice had grown thoughtful. "As much as hustle and bustle can bother me, I could see myself enjoying that peace and quiet."

He glanced down at Sam and ran his free hand across her forehead and through her hair, giving great care to be gentle. "Moonlight suits you well," he mused quietly as he smiled. How had they gotten here? How had they gone from a couple dinners out to both being so relaxed and holding each other?

Leaning his head back, he closed his eyes but didn't cease the soft affection. A little chuckle did emerge though. "Don't let me drink two glasses next time," he teased. "It's putting me to sleep." He paused. "Or maybe it's just you that's making me so comfortable."

Stuck

Following her Uncle back to Gunner's room Bree took her place again next to him on the bed smiling. Just listing to her Uncle she was a little sad hearing that Gunner would have to go back, Brookshire. It made sense just to make sure he was healing well but she had hoped he would be able to go home.

Once JT was gone Bree looked at Gunner. Hearing his comment she rolled her eyes but still smiled at him. She knew he just needed that reassurance.

"I've come this far, I think I can handle more."

Leaning in she gave Gunner a soft kiss again. She loved him far too much to just leave like that.

"You are stuck with me no matter how long it takes. Hopefully, you won't be the one tiring of me."

"Thank you for inviting me. I know I am not the kind of person you really see at these places but...it's been fun doing something new."

Destiny smiled look at Zan. She really was enjoying herself and doing some good, helping today felt nice. She'd never had that feeling before but she liked it.

"My brain has always kind of been able to see things before the happen, kind of like a movie or running an analysis one something to see the outcomes. I never got to use that before until today. It was nice knowing I was able to help."

Looking across the table at Hunter Scarlet smiled. She was happy Eli had called her and asked her to come out with the group. She liked pretty much everyone here and they all got along well. With her cousin hanging out with Tal more her apartment was quiet again. She was happy though that she had found a friend.

"So Hunter, tomorrow are you going to bring Dylan to the race too? I'm going to be hanging around tomorrow evening So he's more than welcome to hang out with us."

Just listing to Hal Sam loved his voice and how he explained things. She didn't know what it was but he was just soft and it was comforting. Shifting a little Sam moved so her head was laying in Hal's lap and she was looking up at him while her legs were hanging over the arm of the couch.

   "Mmm...."

Sam thought for a long moment about the question. She never really thought about it before. It had just been random she asked Hal so it took her a little longer to think about it.

"You know...I never thought about living anywhere but the city. It's here I have always lived and my family really didn't move around much."

Silent again Sam played with Hal's hand in her own holding his hand up and letting her fingers intertwine with his.

"I don't mind living in the city but if I really think about it the peace and quiet of the country sounds really nice too."

Follower

Receiving Bree's hug, JT's eyes widened in bewilderment. "What..." He loved getting hugs from her, but what was going on?

Hearing about Gunner, a smile spread on his face. It had worked. Gunner had come back to them. "Thank the Lord," he breathed. He nodded at Bree and motioned for her to walk with him. "I'm at a good stopping point in my rounds - I'll come talk to him."

Getting back to the room and seeing Gunner still working on his rootbeer float, JT smiled again. "Hey, Gunner."

Gunner looked up quickly, his face now showing complete recognition. "JT... wow... I feel like I just woke up from a dream."

JT chuckled. "Rootbeer can do that sometimes." He grabbed a chair and sat down near the bed. "Bree said you had some questions."

"Um... well, yeah." Gunner fiddled with his straw. "I guess... well, do we know if the surgery did what it's supposed to?"

JT sighed. "It's kinda tough to answer that since the results can be iffy. But since the other doctors and I all agree the bone fragment was causing issues, and that's been removed - and the plate's been adjusted - I really think you're going to experience far less trouble, yes."

Gunner's eyes narrowed slightly. "That's not the most straightforward answer in the world."

"Alright... then the most straightforward answer is, I don't know. It's going to take some time to see if this helps your brain readjust and stop firing the wrong signals. In my opinion though, the fact that you didn't wake up depressed is a good sign. How do you feel?"

Gunner wasn't sure. He looked down at the styrofoam cup then glanced at Bree, then back to JT. Having suddenly remembered his experience at Brookshire had not been pleasant. "I... don't want to go walk off a bridge... so that's good... right?"

JT smiled. "Of course it is."

"So what happens now? Will I get to go home?"

JT pursed his lips, wanting to skirt around the issue, but knowing Gunner always wanted it straight. "Not yet. We want to keep you here for a few more days as a precaution after your surgery. After that, you'll return to Brookshire."

Gunner's shoulders sank a little more.

"But hopefully just for a limited time," JT assured. "There are several things involved here. One, you're not going to be able to drive for probably six weeks. Not until we know for sure your brain is healing, and not until your motor skills have significantly improved. There are people at Brookshire who will help you with physical therapy to help speed that process along. At the same time, you'll need to go back to your counseling sessions."

Gunner frowned. "Are they gonna put me back on medication?"

"It all depends on your evaluations. Gunner, I'm convinced you will need something to help keep you balanced. But after this surgery, I'm also convinced it's going to be something far less potent than they were trying before. This surgery wasn't a cure-all. It's certainly going to help - a lot - but you're going to have to deal with some of your issues the rest of your life. It's just up to you whether you're going to accept help or keep fighting it." Hearing his name over the intercom, JT stood. "I have to go. I'll be back later though. Just rest."

Alone with Bree again, Gunner concentrated on sucking more of his float. He'd known this was going to be a long road, he just... wished he could be all better and go back to life. His eyes shifted over to Bree again. "You... you'll still be with me, right? I mean... this could take a while..."

Zan laughed, his eyes dancing. "I was hoping you'd say that." He walked with her back to his car and opened the door for her before going around to sit behind the wheel. He hesitated just a moment with the key in the ignition. He'd heard Eli's comment to Destiny earlier when they'd been driving - about him being her boyfriend - and didn't know how she'd responded, but he felt a little bad if she'd been embarrassed. Bringing it up would probably just make it awkward though, so he finally started the car.

As they drove back into town though, he glanced over at her. "Thanks for coming along today. You really were a big help, and I meant it when I said I was impressed."

Jett followed behind the small caravan into town, his mind on more than just pizza. You are only a sidekick if that's what you want to be. Was that really true? He just... had never fit into the higher class. Ever. Since he was a child. He'd learned very early on there were leaders and there were followers, and he had never belonged with the leaders. He just wasn't... the right kind of material. He couldn't deny though how good it had felt to be out there driving in the sand today. What would it feel like in a car with a better engine and good tires? He sighed. It would never happen. At least he was getting some pizza out of the deal.

Getting to Mom and Pop's, the group barged in on Carson, throwing him waves before sitting down. Eli had called Scarlet on the way to make sure she could meet them there, bringing their whole little group back together again. Food was a must. Laughter was a given. And topics for conversation ranged anywhere from tomorrow night's plans, to radiator fluid, to swimming holes, to music.

Sitting next to Destiny, Zan thoroughly enjoyed himself. He never would have thought he'd hook up with this group, but he was glad he had. And Destiny? An unexpected but very welcomed addition.

Hunter sat close to Ryan as usual, his ankle hooked around hers under the table as the banter went back and forth. Stealing a kiss every once in a while, he didn't care they were in public - he was just...happy.

Eli was thrilled with how the day had gone, and even more thrilled that Scarlet was around and could come with them tomorrow night. Being with her here in this scene was the cherry on top. Life could change in an instant, but right now... he was living a dream.

Sitting at the end and pushed back from the table a little, Jett tried to join in, but sometimes wasn't heard. He was odd man out...again. Not that it was anybody's fault. And Zan apparently wasn't going to admit Destiny was anything more than a friend, but it was obvious they were a couple. So even with them around, Jett was the one extra wheel. At least it was good pizza. That always helped. And he did have fun. He just... was on the outside. But that's where he belonged anyway, wasn't it?

Hal slid down just a little more so he'd make a better pillow for Sam, and abandoned his affections for now, just sighing in content. "I don't know..." His fingers continued their light play with hers as his free arm stayed draped around her. "I've only ever lived in the city. Grew up on a busy street, moved to a busier street, moved to a quieter street but it was behind a factory, moved downtown, and now..." He chuckled. "Maybe being up so high is a lame attempt to escape."

He paused and studied the few twinkling stars above them. "I've spent a little time in the country but only on jobs so I wasn't really enjoying it. I don't know if I'd like living outside the city or not, but it sounds appealing." His fingertips ran the length of her fingers and over her thumb before he turned his palm and let her play too.

"What about you? City life or country life?"

If you want

Bree couldn't help the laugh through her tears at Gunner's comment. He had forgotten but that was ok, it was ok now and she had no problem with it at all. Returning his kiss with every ounce of her own emotion Bree just let her feelings show. She has missed this, missed feeling the love she knew was true.

"I think it worked...you seem a lot happier. Let me go get my Uncle to talk with you ok."

Leaving Gunner for the moment Bree looked for her Uncle. Finding him she walked up to him and just gave him a big hug. Pull away her smile was big as she looked at him a few tears in her eyes still.

"He remembers me...he says he remembers everything. He's also asking if the surgery worked. I told him I thought it did but I would get you to talk to him more."

"You are only a sidekick if that's what you want to be. You have the skill, you should use it and you are the only one holding yourself back."

Turning to the others and hearing the novice race had been moved Ryan didn't really mind too much. The sooner it was the sooner they could take out the trash.

"I can do tomorrow, I just might have to work through my lunch. So...you all owe me one."

Hearing about the pizza Destiny looked to Zan and her smile grew even more. Did he really have to ask? I guess that was better than just assuming.

"Um...its pizza, do you really think I would turn that down?"

Ryan smiled at Hunter before nudging him. If only everyone would be back sooner they could invite Dylan along. Oh well there would be more time for that for sure.

"Oh I guess I wont keep you out all night...lets eat!"

Sam accepted the light kiss. She liked them just as much as making out with him. They were filled with just as many emotions as anything else if not maybe more. Letting her fingers just keep playing with his Sam was content and happy.

"I'm ok with just staying like this for a while."

Giving Hal another kiss Sam broke away and leaned her head on his chest again giving a content sigh. This was perfect to her. How could she ever ask for me.

"Do you like it here in town? Or would you like the country more?"

Tomorrow Night

Hal returned Sam's kiss lightly and smiled. Too good to be true? How serious was she about this? His eyes searched hers as they liked to do, and his thoughts from earlier returned. Were they moving too quickly?

Maybe it was her presence that made him feel so good. Maybe it was the wine. Either way, his mind didn't want to dwell on his questions. He just wanted to enjoy the moment. He leaned back in, just brushing her lips with his. His fingers intertwined with hers, gently moving as he tilted his head, again hardly touching his lips to hers. His other hand crept up to the side of her face, his thumb caressing her cheek. "If it's too good to be true..." he whispered. His light kisses continued, just barely brushing over her skin. "...let's just stay here forever."

"An unstoppable force..." Hunter grinned. "I like the sound of that."

Zan wasn't so sure he'd ever really be in Hunter and Ryan's league - he'd probably still be in the novice races if he hadn't been so determined to move up too fast. Even so, he grinned a little at Ryan's compliment. "Well... I dunno, but thanks. I certainly don't plan on quitting any time soon." He turned to Destiny and moved a little closer. "I'm glad you had fun..." He bit his lip as he quirked a little smile. "You know I wouldn't complain about you sticking around. I'm not too proud to have you watch and give me pointers."

Jett hooked his thumbs in his pockets and scuffed a toe in the sand, contemplating Ryan's suggestion. "Eh... I don't know... I don't... really belong out there with racers. I mean..." He glanced up at Destiny's comment and shook his head. "I'm just... a sidekick." Glancing back down, he cleared his throat, then snapped his attention back up and changed the subject. "Oh! Crap, I forgot. The novice race was bumped back."

Hunter's eyebrows rose. "When is it?"

"Tomorrow night."

Zan shrugged. "Fine by me."

"Me too," Hunter agreed. "Let's get this done."

Eli clapped his hands together. "Good. We can get it over with. Glad we practiced today. Now - who wants pizza?"

Jett immediately perked up. "I'm starving."

Zan glanced at Destiny and offered a new smile. "Care to join us?"

Hunter tightened his arms around Ryan and set his chin on her shoulder. "I like the sound of pizza. I just can't stay out late tonight on account of company coming."

Eli quirked an eyebrow. "Company?"

"Yeah. Dylan Henson. He's-"

"Mick's son?"

Hunter blinked. "Yeah... did Ryan tell you about him?"

"Well somebody did." Eli grinned, trying to recover as the wheels in his mind turned. "We won't keep you out late. Or at least I won't. I can't speak for my sister." He moved to his motorcycle and mounted up, and Jett went back to the loaner car.

Gunner wrapped his arms around Bree, sinking into her embrace. Her words meant the world to him. He swiped away a tear and choked on a light laugh. "I... forgot?" Pulling her closer again, he kissed her once more, now with all his love and passion that had been so far out of his mind's reach the last few days. It wasn't just a kiss goodnight to a stranger. It was a kiss that proved his love had not left.

Drawing back to catch his breath, he closed his eyes, resting his forehead against hers. "Does... does this mean the surgery worked?" He swallowed hard. "Or... do I have to go back to Brookshire?"

True

As Hal pulled the extra chat and put his feet up Sam smiled. She didn't want him to feel bad, she just wanted him to be himself. Looking up at the stars too Sam let out a small sigh. The city lights did block some of them but others could still be made out.

"Good company can always make a situation better for sure. Have to admit you are the best I have had in a long while too."

As Hal kissed her head Sam moved just a little, feeling his breath on her neck she couldn't help the tingle she felt down her spine as she heart rate picked up. His kisses were so soft and light, they made her head spin.

Shifting a little to look up at Hal Sam brought her hands to the side of his face and smiled. The dim light making his eyes glisten. Leaning up and kissing his lips Sam pulled away for a second.

"I'm not sure how I got so lucky. This all seems to good to be true."

Ryan couldn't help but beam at Hunter. She really had missed racing and this with really not much pressure had been fun. Zan and Jett had been pretty good too.

"Well, I guess it's a good thing we more than likely won't be racing against each other. We can just be an unstoppable force."

Smile and nodded at Zan he had been good too.

"Keep practicing and you could even start giving us a run for our money."

Destiny smiled as Zan drew closer. She really had, had fun here today more than she thought she would. It felt nice to be able to help too and have it do some good.

"Maybe I will be more help than I thought I would be. It was actually kind of fun."

As Jett joined them Ryan leans her back against Hunter's chest and kept her arms on top of his. Jett had impressed her today. He really was a pretty good driver and should give racing a shot.

"I think you should get a car, even if its a crappy one and start racing in the newbie races. You did great out there and I am impressed."

At Jett's mention of her being pretty Destiny could feel some color come to her cheeks. She wasn't used to all the compliments.

"Eh, I think you always had it in you. You just needed a little push."

Taking a sip of her float Bree stopped listing to Gunner. Hearing him remember there the first date she didn't say anything not wanting to break his train of thought. She just looked and listened. He almost was remembering it better then she did.

   "Gunner..."

Bree could feel the tears roll down her cheek as a warm feeling washed over her. A smile spread on her lips as her eyes searched his face. She hoped this moment would come and now it was better than expected.

Setting her drink aside Bree didn't waste time and got on the bed and wrapped her arms around him giving him a big kiss on the lips. Pulling away but still keeping her arms around him her smile grew.

"Oh Gunner, I love you so much. Of course, we are, I told you, you wouldn't lose me."

Impressed

Gunner sucked on the straw and paused to grin a little at Bree. How they met? "Really?"

Seeing they were enjoying themselves, JT exited quietly, deciding to come back a little later. Maybe...just maybe his efforts wouldn't be wasted. Only time would tell.

Gunner held the cup clumsily between his hands, but at least he could drink through the straw without help, and that was much more enjoyable than being spoon-fed. He took another sip and let his tongue absorb the taste of the rootbeer and vanilla ice cream. A foggy image flashed in his mind. A table. In some kind of restaurant. No... yes. An ice cream shop.

Without even realizing it, he stopped drinking as his eyes took on a faraway look, caught in a stare at nothingness. The image in his mind was so vague. So... far away. Then he saw a face. Her face.

"You ordered a sundae without the sundae," he whispered. "I... I had to convince the grouchy waitress to bring you the toppings without the ice cream."

He blinked and looked over at her, forgetting all about his float. "Bree..." His gaze was flooded with recognition mixed with a wave of emotions. One by one, he saw their moments flash by in his mind like a movie. He saw her virtually saving him from Northside... rescuing her... being in jail... feeling so lonely without her... smiling... laughing... proposing to her on that stupid camping trip... everything. And Brookshire.

A tear escaped and trickled down the side of his face. "I remember everything," he choked. "Oh Bree... I'm so sorry you've been put through all this." Another tear came, and another. "I love you so much," he whispered. "Are... are we okay?"

Zan wasn't Destiny's boyfriend? Eli had apparently judged that one wrong. Wait... she just thought so? He grinned a little. Maybe he wasn't wrong - maybe he'd just jumped the gun. He said nothing more and just kept watching until Ryan pulled up. Smiling at her, he nodded. "You guys looked great. You pulled some pretty fancy moves out there." And he couldn't be more proud that she was back in her car, back in the dessert, and back to the high speeds.

It didn't take long for the others to come back, too. Hunter parked and got out, going straight to Ryan with a wide smile. "I'm glad you called it - otherwise I think we woulda been out there all day." He took her under an arm and jostled her teasingly. "You... were awesome. I'm telling ya... I'm not sure I wanna try racing against you again."

"And now I remember why I keep losing." Zan rolled his eyes but he was smiling anyway. Hunter and Ryan might be better drivers, but he'd just had a blast out here today, not just from going fast, but from working as a team with the others. He ambled over to Destiny, his eyes twinkling. "And you... are definitely going to watch me when I actually race so you can start giving me some pointers. I'm pretty impressed with your insights."

"Hey! Where'd y'all go?!" Jett ambled into the group, interrupting, but grinning from ear to ear.

Zan turned around. "And you! Where the heck did that driving come from?"

Jett shrugged. "I dunno. I just started turning the steering wheel."

Hunter joined in, still keeping Ryan close. "Why aren't you in the newbie races?"

"I..." Jett shrugged again. "Don't have a car."

"Well why didn't you say you could drive like that?" Zan questioned.

"'Cause... nobody ever asked?" Jett caught Destiny's eye and his smile widened. "Either that or I just never had a pretty enough audience."

Hal inwardly rolled his eyes at himself. There he went again, making things awkward. You'd think by now he would be past all that. As Sam told him to get comfortable too, he swallowed his nerves and chuckled. Slipping an arm around her, he held her a little closer. "Oh I'm comfortable," he assured.

He stretched out his leg to bring another chair closer to put his feet up on it, and settled back a bit more, leaning his head back to look up at the sky. "The only thing that would make this place nicer is being able to see more stars. I can sometimes pretend the city lights don't exist, and that helps." He paused. "Good company helps too," he mused.

Falling quiet, he let his fingers toy with hers in his lap, just running his fingertips along her knuckles. As the peacefulness continued on, he shifted a little to kiss the top of her head. Lingering, he moved down a little more until his breath was on the back of her neck, and he gave her a soft kiss there too.

Bee yourself

Standing at the couch for a long moment Sam grinned. Taking the last sip of her wine she set the glass down on the table before wondering over again and sitting down.

   "Don't be nervous...just...be yourself."

Cuddling into Hal a little bit Sam brought her feet up on the couch too and leaned her head on his chest. Linking her fingers with his. She hoped if he wasn't comfortable he would just shift around to make himself so too. She didn't want him to feel like he had to be super careful just himself.

   "There...now you get comfortable too."

Taking Destiny's suggestion the run was not good, but it was better than what they had been doing and Ryan could see how it could work. If they just kept at it they could perfect it she just new it.

"We are starting to get the hang of it."

Watching as they continued to practice Destiny once again took everything in playing it all out in her mind. Seeing the cars, extra cars and possible moves that could be made. She'd always had a talent for seeing things before they happened...being able to picture it as if it was real she'd just never used the gift before.

"Tell them to get tighter, if they are close enough Thunder won't try to speed up, or slow down since its desert sand and he could swerve causing himself to crash. Zan can pull off, and get in front from there."

Hearing Eli mentioned Zan as her boyfriend Destiny smirked at him. Was he? That thought hadn't even really crossed her mind till this moment now. Glancing at Eli she smirked.

   "He's not my boyfriend...at least I don't think so, just a friend."

Ryan continued the chase and it gave her a good chance to really practice her driving too. Finally though pulling off from the others she drove back to where Eli and Destiny were.

   "I'm done for now."

She was just tired, and even if Thunder did try to run it would last this long. He'd lose and that would be that. Getting out she smiled at Eli and Destiny.

"I think we did pretty good thanks to Destiny here."

"Ohh...I'd rather have a Root no beer, hold the float rather they hospital food myself."

Bree looked at Gunner and smiled before taking one of the cups and holding it. Taking a smile she smiled. It sure did taste good and make it would be a little easier for Gunner to manuver it too.

"This was our favorite treat to get together. I think because its how we met."

Looking to her Uncle again Bree smiled and gave a nod. She was really thankful for this.

   "Thank you so much!"

Eel

Hal followed Sam's gaze over to the little couch and grinned. In spite of previous hesitations, he couldn't say no to her suggestion. "Okay." Moving away from the railing, he wandered over to the furniture and adjusted the cushion before sitting down. He looked right and left, then up at Sam, suddenly realizing he had no idea where she'd like to sit or what her idea of "cuddle" was. Without being in the heat of the moment, he wasn't sure what she wanted, and he didn't want to assume the wrong thing and disappoint her or make her feel awkward. As some heat crawled up the back of his neck, he gave her a sheepish grin. She'd just have to take the lead until he figured out what she actually wanted.

Eli quirked an eyebrow at Destiny, considering her suggestion. "Say, you got smarts." He turned his attention back to his mic. "You guys hear that?"

Zan glanced out his window at the others, frowning. "She thinks I ought to what?"

"Catch some draft. Get behind Ryan and Hunter and steal their wind. It'll push you all faster so you can get a jump on Thunder. Or Jett."

"Yeah, but no matter how fast I go, I still gotta get around in front of him."

Eli thought for a minute and glanced at Destiny as he thought. "Make the formation anyway when you start out so you can pick up some good speed. Once Jett rounds the far bend, Zan, you veer off and cut across the course. Pull right in front of him. Hunter and Ryan, you come up from behind and close in on his flanks."

"Cut across?" Zan shook his head as he looked out at the sand. "But-"

"But what?" Eli smirked. "You're in this to take Thunder out, not play by the rules. Rules went out the window the day he decided to race the novices. So all of you quit thinking like nice people and kick some butt."

Hunter looked left out at Zan, then right over to Ryan and grinned. "You heard the man. Let's kick butt."

Jett was waiting in his car, just watching and not knowing what was going on. He threw up his arms in question.

Zan waved at him to go again and sighed. "Alright... here we go."

They let Jett get a head start again before Hunter revved his engine. "Alright, my love, let's go chase us a rabbit."

Watching as Hunter and Ryan took off, Zan immediately took up the rear.

Eli squinted at the dust clouds and nudged Destiny's arm lightly. "How are they looking?"

On the makeshift course, they attempted Eli's directions - they did pick up better speed this time, and Zan cut across as he'd been told. It was still too sloppy and after swerving just a bit, Jett easily got away again. They kept trying though, each time getting a little better. After a while, their practice paid off. Like a well-oiled machine, they sprinted in good time, picked up their speed, broke apart, came around and boxed Jett in.

"Wooee!" Zan looked in his rear view mirror as they raced towards their imaginary finish line, gradually slowing and forcing Jett to slow as well.

Eli flinched and put a hand to his ear, cringing at Destiny. "Your boyfriend gets loud when he gets excited, doesn't he?"

Without warning though, Jett suddenly slammed on his brakes, and Zan, Ryan and Hunter all shot away from him. Zan's eyes widened and he geared down. "What the..."

Jett, having realized they'd perfected their little maneuver had decided to join in the fun. Laughing, he saw the others slow, and took advantage, speeding around them again.

Eli blinked as he watched. "Well what are you guys doing? Go get him!"

Zan started forward again, growling. "Son of a-"

"Hey now," Eli chided as he grinned. "Jett's just reminding you that Thunder ain't gonna take this sitting down. Now come on - box him in."

It became a free for all. There was no start or finish anymore. With his radio blaring, Jett smiled from ear to ear as he started swerving, avoiding the pack, slipping out from in between them, braking, speeding up and snaking erratic patterns.

From Eli's point of view, it looked like a circus and he started to laugh. "He's got an old junker that goes half the speed of your cars with less maneuverability and bad tires. And you guys can't even catch him. Pitiful, just pitiful."

"For crying out loud!" Hunter complained. "He's slipperier than an eel!" Just as he'd said it, Jett sped past in the opposite direction. "Dang it!"

Eli laughed again. "What's the matter? Can't handle him?" He folded his arms and glanced at Destiny again. "Now this is fun."

Gunner was embarrassed and frustrated by the whole thing, but he tried to cover it up with a small smile anyway. He might not be all with it in the head, but being a grown man incapable of handling small tasks with his hands was pretty disheartening.

"Yeah," he agreed. "If you don't help, I may never get to eat." He leaned in close so she could help him eat, even if deep down it really was embarrassing.

"Hey, you two!" JT came in smiling. He immediately took note of what was going on, and felt bad. But he knew it would just take some time for Gunner to retrain his muscles. It would come - he was confident. He just needed to be patient. In the meantime though... "Thought you two might like some dessert after you lunch or... maybe for your lunch."

Gunner looked up and swallowed his mouthful, quirking an eyebrow at the two styrofoam cups. "Straws. I like straws. I can handle straws."

JT chuckled. "Two rootbeer floats, compliments of the cafeteria."

"Did they hold the foam?"

JT blinked. "What?"

"Nothing." Gunner clumsily accepted his treat and grinned. "Thanks."

"Of course." JT handed the other one to Bree. "I gotta make some rounds, but I'll be back. Enjoy."

Danger

Sam liked the sound of having more nights like that. Just him and her...it was quiet, it was nice. After all the craziness they dealt with at work just relaxing felt good, the two of them. She hoped she wasn't moving into this whole thing too fast with Hal and if she was he would tell her.

"More nights like this I would definitely like."

Swirling her wine for a moment Sam had just been nursing it. It tasted good and she wanted to just savor the taste. Hearing Hal's comment Sam thought for a moment before looking over at the little wicker couch he had on the deck. It looked too comfortable to pass up.

"How about we cuddle on the couch there, the light music still playing, under the stars and just...enjoy the night. It's too nice out to pass it up."

Catching the headset Ryan laughed. She poor brother...she liked seeing him squirm though. If she had to deal with him and Scarlet then he just had to deal with them. She could make it worse for him though he was just lucky she loved him enough to spare him most the details.

Looking at Zan Destiny nodded and smiled. It felt nice to be included with everyone even if she really didn't know all of what was going on. She knew a lot more now thought then when she had first gone to the races.

Heading out in her car it felt a little strange being able to hear everyone but Ryan was sure it was something she would get used too. Looking over at Hunter in his car she smiled.

"No pressure? No No...lots of pressure. The ball is in your court we are just here for support and back up."

Watching Destiny cringed seeing how rough the race was. This was a lot different than the first race she had been to so for them it must be hard. They weren't racing they were losing and taking someone else with them.

Silent for a long second she just studied the area letting a picture forum in her mind. Talking a little loud she wasn't sure if the others could hear or not while she was thinking.

"If Ryan takes left, Hunter can get right, and Zan can get back. He can use their down draft to make him go faster and in turn, make them go faster too. If they keep is right. Then go up around Thunder almost like a cup. It would be enough to make him panic but could be dangerous too."

Watching as the bean went sailing Bree's eyes widened as she looked at the floor and then back to Garret just blinking. Looking down at her own food she took a Brussels sprout and tossed it in Garret's direction just laughing for a second.

"You just tried to attack me with a bean!!!"

Standing and wondering over to the bed Bree sat down to Gunner and smiled. Just studying him for a long second she felt bad he was still having a hard time. Maybe she could help.

"Can I help you? A Vampire needs to keep his strength up!"
